I don't blame the downers - their spirit has been destroyed by years of inconsistent play and losing- yet miraculously they keep coming back like a beaten dog who keeps returning to his owner. Cheer up glass is half full Dukes fans and drink some purple kool aid. We are making some final repairs to the bandwagon and getting ready to roll through February and early March- I just hope there will be enough room for everyone because dormant fans will jump aboard too and the downer Dukes fans will have to box them out and battle for position aboard the bandwagon much like Tommy V boxes out the opposition for rebounds.
54 percent from the field
Made 8 3's
17 assists and only 5 turnovers
76 percent from the line
4 guys in double figures
6-3 in the league with the best team in the league coming to town Saturday at 4
I am enjoying the win and look forward to the game Saturday.
This team is playing some unselfish basketball right now and some of our shooters have found their touch again. Brady appears to finally find his rotation of players. The first half of the season he was using different combination of players on the court and I felt it really hurt our guys to find a playing rhythm as a unit. Andre Nation's minutes are gone and Hari Hall minutes have disappeared as Vodanovich, Gray and McLean have increased. As this team's confidence builds we will rise to the top. I like how much this team has improved from since December!

Go Dukes! Saturday, all we have to do is guard the 3 point shooting. A lot of teams have been shutting Thornton down.
I have not been able to watch the last several games because of issues with Stretch, which is total garbage in my humble opinion. In any event, I did not have a good feeling yesterday about the game and the Dukes were down late in this one. They managed to overcome the late deficit, just as they had in the first half when down by 8 points. That's big for this team's confidence. As Hart said, this league is wide open and anyone can beat anyone. I don't think the Dukes will finish the second half of the season with the same 6-3 record....more likely to go 5-4, I would think, given two games against Wilmington, one versus W&M and three other road games besides UNCW. Therefore, I would stay away from any bandwagon.
I read today, though, and it's been encouraging, that this team has now shot over 50 percent in 9 contests this year. That's not something I would have expected from this young group, but shows their offensive potential when they play the right way. It was also encouraging for Tom V. to have that sort of game....he's had a couple of those of late and the Dukes are now 4-1 since Nation's departure, the same record they had without him to start the season.

That last line is too funny. Review some stats next time.

That's ^ the one that jumps out to me. For a group that looks like all thumbs and hands of stone on occasion that's pretty encouraging. 6-3 at this point? I'd have taken that at the start if offered.

Yeah, and a lot of that is just understanding the team game and better shot selection. W/o Nation, they at least seem to try to run the offense and there's a lot less 1-on1 at the end of the shot clock. You don't score 88 in college and put four guys in double figures by running the shot clock down no matter who you're playing.

Wouldn't you know the only time we ran it down to the buzzer TV tosses up a 3PTR and makes his first and only one of the season out of 11 attempts. Glad he made it and if ever its a time to just toss it up that was it, but why has he had 11 attempts?

My Junior year we averaged 87 points per game! No shot clock. We had internal shot clocks. Shoot every 10 seconds!

Just out of curiosity - how would the SOS back in your day compare to now???

87 points per game is definitely impressive, but wouldn't you say that's not the norm in college basketball these days? The game is slower and a lot more physical than it was in the early 70's. I think the average ppg in Division I ball is around 68 points per game, and JMU fields about 66 ppg/avg.

Wow - with Lou? If so, both surprising and impressive.
I believe this was just before Lou.

Yeah, I've been waiting for BSKB's reply, but his Junior year he may have had Dean Ehlers as his coach, and maybe Lou for his senior season. Hopefully he'll jump on hear and clue us in, as most of us know, Lou rarely had games go up into the 80's.
