Some redshirts, I imagine. They can only carry 35.

I was going to say that the current maximum roster size is 35 including redshirts. The way it works now is a redshirt takes a roster spot. That may have been the fall roster when you can carry more players.

However, 2016 we are gonna be LOADED! Like ULL 2014 loaded.
I think 2016 will be better for the Cajuns as well with 13 freshmen, 4 sophomores, 14 juniors and five seniors on the roster. I think our hitting will be surprisingly good since we lost 6 position players but we had a number of guys who played quite a bit last year in various roles. That will allow us to transition the freshmen position players into the lineup without having to have them produce as freshmen.
Where we'll take a hit this year is pitching as we lost our whole weekend rotation. We brought in a number of very talented pitchers as true freshmen, some who will have to start this year, but I expect them to adjust and improve as the year goes on. That's why I think we'll be better in 2016 than this year. Also, next years class will include the top two pitchers in Louisiana, both nationally ranked, which will help fill out the staff next year.
This and next years recruiting classes have been our best in a number of years, so I think you better get us this year while the gettin's good. ;-)

This is correct. You can only carry 35 period on the regular roster, including redshirts.

Not sure what our plan is to cut down. But, yeah the spring roster currently lists 42.

Yep. Most guys won't stay around for eight months without being able to practice or spend any time with the team hoping to make next years team.

Sorry to add on, but they also wouldn't be elligible for any sports related scholarship/book/expenses to stay in school. Most guys move to a JUCO for a year rather than staying in school where they can't work on any skills.

RE: More SBC baseball preview
So a question. We do have an intramural baseball team. If a kid really wants to stay at, say, TXST, could he, if he chose to, play for that team without any repercussions?
I realize they'd probably rather go the JUCO route but, would that scenario be kosher?

You have to assume the S&C of football built that up over the past 4 years and allowed him to hold RF last year.
You have to have arm strength to play Safety and tackle properly. He was 4th in TT this year. (Mayo, McGowen, Odiari, Targun)
Targun .242/.317/.352
Studdard .270/.364/.385
Geisler .293/.358/.360
If he gets outperformed by the younger guys again he may not have a spot available in the outfield other than to rest a guy, arm strength or not.
You have to remember Targun was coming off a football injury to his arm (injured in WKU game), also. I would wager it wasn't fully healed for baseball in 2014.
2013 numbers:
.321/.459/.429

I'm pretty sure you could do that as long as he's not receiving anything from the athletic department (money, coaching, training, medical, etc). There's also a five years to play four rule as well but don't know if that would come into play in this scenario.
