Quick Look: Conference Standings (MBB)
I don't follow basketball much, but I thought I'd take a look today (1/27/15) and see what was going on generally in the Conference. It occurs to me that there might be one or two other people who would like to get a glimpse of where things stand:

Conference USA Standings
TEAM .......................CONF ........OVERALL
Western Kentucky...... 7-0...........14-5
Louisiana Tech...........6-1...........15-5
UAB......................... 6-1...........10-10
Middle Tennessee.......5-2...........12-8
Old Dominion............ 4-3...........15-4
UTEP........................ 4-3...........12-7
UTSA....................... 3-4........... 9-9
Rice......................... 3-4........... 6-12
FIU.......................... 2-3........... 9-9
Charlotte.................. 2-5........... 8-11
North Texas.............. 2-5........... 8-11
FAU......................... 1-4........... 8-8
Southern Miss........... 1-6........... 6-12
Marshall................... 1-6........... 5-15

At this point, USM and Marshall would be out of the tourney (although I think USM declared themselves ineligible for post-season play.)

Our (UTEP) mbb team has been a big disappointment thus far. If the Miners are going to have any chance at a first round bye in the conference tourney, they have to win both home games this week. Both are against tough competition too.

[Image: rae.png] Conversely, our (Rice) mbb team has been a bit of a surprise as far as competitiveness in conference season thus far. New Rice Head Coach Mike Rhoades is having his thin roster play a scrappy new full court pressing style, and with the exception of the last game against LA Tech, we have been shooting very well from behind the 3 pt arc and at the FT stripe. Good things lie in seasons ahead for Rice Hoops!

I believe Rice will do what USM did over the last 5 years. They're going to become one of the elite teams in C-USA temporarily.

Rice's program deserves some attention. They're going to beat some people in conference they shouldn't this year.

After the start to the season I am surprised to see MT standing at 5-2 and 12-8.

RE: Quick Look: Conference Standings (MBB)
How many people had WKU at 7 and 0 to start CUSA? I certainly thought we had the experience to have a good team this season but did not expect to be 7 and 0 at this point...Still a long ways to go and I think 14 and 4 in conf. might win regular season and lock up a #1 seed in conf. tournament play...From what I have saw so far is a lot of teams that can beat anyone on any given night....Way more parity in CUSA than what WKU experienced in Sun Belt...
