The AAC wants at least one more bowl game
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com...bowl-game/

Oh, you thought college football had enough bowl games, or perhaps too many bowl games? Tell that to schools like UAB, Georgia Southern and Temple. All reached the required win minimum in order to be bowl eligible in 2014, but none were sent an invitation to play in a bowl game. Georgia Southern was ineligible due to playing its first season at the FBS level, but UAB and Temple were simply left out.

Perhaps because of that, the American Athletic Conference is looking into the possibility of introducing another bowl game to the college football calendar.

“We have a great bowl lineup that we think is just going to get better and better next year as we add a couple of bowls to lineup and we may even add a few more,” AAC commissioner Mike Aresco said to The Orlando Sentinel. “No one wants to have teams left out as several conferences did and several conferences have had it historically happen every year so we’re trying to prevent that.”

I'll be for this, if we somehow manage to get a respectable P5 into the Miami Bowl.

The Nietzche quote is ironic since his biggest fan was Adolf Hitler.

Yeah I mean if the plan is to trade one of the existing ones to upgrade the opponent in the Miami Beach Bowl which would leave us with 6 then yes a 7th might be needed. If we plan to keep what we have, I can't imagine we have 8 bowl eligible teams next season. Not to mention I am sure we aspire to get the access bowl so if we land that we would be sitting at 8 slots for 12 teams next season already. I would say since we are trying to schedule a lot of P5's in OOC that we would likely be sitting at 6 or 7 teams a year on average being eligible so the extra game seems likely to go unfilled.

I still think they sell the Cure or Boca bowl slot to CUSA next year to get a P5 Miami Bowl Tie-In. The ACC will probably have extra teams with the Orange being a Semi-next year and only 9 tie-ins next year. What Areso needs to do before creating any new bowl is to sell the following bowls spots now.

2015 Cure to the CUSA;
2016 Boca to the MAC;
2017 Boca to SB;
2018 Bahamas to MAC;
2019 Boca to Sun Belt

Then, I think the AAC would be wise to try and cut deals with the ACC for the Miami Bowl for the years the Orange is a Semi-Final and the Big Ten when the Rose is a Semi-Final. Then have BYU the years when two ACCESS Bowls are the Semis. That would be a pretty good rotation and should get the Miami Bowl a better time slot.

Miami Bowl Assume Same Rotation as 2014-2016
ACC 2015, 2018
B12 2017
BYU 2016, 2019

After this, the AAC would see if a another bowl makes sense. Thoughts?

Houston could use another bowl. Texas is football crazy, and the Texas bowl is very well supported, even before the lineup went B1G versus B12. Too big of a market for just one... and with UH, SMU and even Tulsa and Tulane within a days drive, makes big sense to support the western side of the conference.

I didn't like Temple being left out, add a bowl if that's what it takes to make sure AAC teams are taken care of.

That is because for 2014 we had our lowest allotment of bowls at 6 and sold one so we only had 5 for 11 spots. The other years we have 7 or 8 spots assuming we don't sell any. I mean it is going to be another low level game against the sun belt or Mac. Not too exciting. I do agree with the other post about the Miami Beach Bowl. Sell our lowest bowl game to get the ACC/PAC12 or B10 along with maybe BYU for another season. Then that bowl suddenly looks solid and hopefully a better time slot. This goes way back but given we seem to be ok playing these lower G5's I still can't understand why we didn't go harder for the New Orleans Bowl. Great destination against the same conference we seem to be lining up additional bowls with in the future.

Getting curb stomped by all those p5 teams last season worked wonders for UC. Can't wait for next season.

there are to many bowls, if you don't have a winning record you shouldn't be in a bowl.

Wasn't there talk of a game in Charleston SC? If so, that may be a good destination for a 6-6 American team to play an eastern side CUSA team. Think Temple playing Ga Southern this year...

I don't have a problem with it if its a good locale and it gives the American program the chance to grow rather then sit at home.

We have plenty of destinations for eastern teams. If we add a bowl, it will be west of the Mississippi. Probably in Texas.

I agree but those days are gone. 6-6 is the minimum and as long as games generate TV ratings, there will be as many bowls to the closet amount of teams that are bowl eligible. I think including App St, Ga Southern and ODU there were 7 teams that were left out. Since the Cure Bowl was added for next season, I figured there would be one more bowl added, probably the LA Christmas Bowl. Also, other networks are now wanting bowls. CBS Cable is broadcasting the Cure Bowl next year. I would not be shocked if FOX Sports tried to get the PAC 12 and the Christmas Bowl for next year as well. I think three teams a year will be the average number of teams that miss. If it jumps above that, look for another bowl to be created.

Western teams can go to Birmingham in the rotation. I don't know where a Bowl in Texas would be added, all the locales already have one.
