Great work by our UAB students over the years who have worked on the paper and who have stood up for what is right now as in the past.

"To President Watts, shame on you, but thank you for being the lightning rod that was needed to energize a movement and expose the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees for what it is, a disease of arrogance and unchecked corruption. Lastly, the former editors and staff members of the UAB Kaleidoscope beg President Watts to remain in office. This is counterintuitive, but not counterproductive. It takes an uncommon foe to start a revolution."

Wow.

RE: Kscope Op-ed
I really liked the Mackin mention:

"To former UAB athletics director Brian Mackin, we thank you for doing everything in your power to preserve your department. Your commitment to the future of UAB has been noted."

Is it just me or does the second sentence contain a rather sharp barb? It can be read two ways, I think...

Seeing whom the authors are (ahem- GN et al), I would assume it is intended as sarcasm... With a way out...

I don't know the authors well enough to say if the comment about Mackin was written in sincerity, or not. But (however that may be) I do think this letter was not the appropriate time for displays of sarcasm or "hidden meanings". This is a time for speaking candidly and calling spades, spades. And it seems like the letter was written in that spirit. Well done.

The line about Brian Mackin seems strategic to me.

Wow.

Yeah. They are being a little harsh toward your boy, no? I actually think this was a very toned down version of what they really think of the man.

It basically is informing Mackin that he still has a chance to right the ship.

Should he fail to take the opportunity, then his fate is determined.

I think that is lovely phrasing in that it can be read several ways, all of which are valid.

And yes, I also think that it implies that all can yet be forgiven if Mackin comes forward with what he knows.

Exactly my take as well, hence my observation.
