Geo,

I had to read your post twice to figure out what you really said.

Nobody I know is happy with where the Tigers are right now but everybody I know expected a step back.

Nobody I know is happy with the lack of progress in the NCAA bracket over the past six years but most I know do not think Josh should be fired this year.

Nobody I know thinks the attitude and attack mentality of many on MTO is acceptable. No buts.

If Josh does not survive it will be a sad day because he is a morale and genuinely good man. He would be a contrast with Kirk and Cal who were master promoters but corrupt. Badly corrupt. I am naive enough to think winning is still possible for a head coach who treats people with respect and doesn't bribe their way to wins.

Cal was corrupt but wanted Pastner as his recruiter when he left for his dream job because Pastner isn't, right?

Too bad Billy Graham is near death. We could hire him as coach

RE: My take, FWIW
I actually liked the post-game celebration. AN took a great shot, nothing but net, solid ROAD win. Any road win is a good win - although given the crowd I am not really certain how much one could call it a 'road' win versus maybe a neutral site win.

What I really don't like is the apathy that has set in. Attendance is not up to our usual standards and the enthusiasm for the program is also down. I give CJP a 90% chance of coming back. I just don't think there is enough to terminate him in terms of performance.

Another year like this year or for that matter that failure to make the Sweet 16 next year, we have to cut the chord. If we can't get into the second weekend of the big dance after 7 years ('cuz I know we won't make it this year), we have to find another coach for the simply enthusiasm injection that the program sorely needs. Personally, I have always thought that CJP had until THIS year to make the Sweet Sixteen, but there doesn't seem to be enough hue and cry to go looking elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see what season tix sales will be for 2015-2016.

And I also think JP is maybe playing it up because he wants the guys to get pumped up. He knows Tulane is no big deal but he is trying to get this team to ramp up. Maybe it is the wrong way but it is his way. I feel it was somewhat artificial and he knew it, but he has to do something.

How do you know what his opinion of Tulane is? Have you asked him? Because that's not what he's said in every press conference following a game with them, and that's not what dancing after a win over a team indicates to most people.

I suspect he thinks it WAS a big deal, and I would agree with him. For this team, not getting swept by Tulane was a huge monkey off their backs. It's a down year, and that was a big win for this team.

The fact that it has COME to that is what many on here are lamenting. We don't think even on a down year beating Tulane should be a big deal. "We are Memphis" doesn't mean what it used to mean. That is what's sad about dancing after THIS win. I can't blame him or the team for dancing. They dodged a bullet on that one.

Strat's point is well taken. It is possible, it is probable that all coaches will have a down year. Granted Pastner hasn't gone as far as his predecessors but he has been in the game. Let's see how this year pans out and probably next year as well.
What may ultimately be his undoing is attendance. Can't pay the bills on 8k a night.

Welcome to the alternative universe.

Wins are scorned and sneered at; posts made celebrating a win are mocked, even the team celebrating is ridiculed.

Losses are gleefully embraced as another brick in the coach's mausoleum; no public negative topic is discouraged or taboo.

Pastner may be back next year. He may not. But the number of posters here slamming him over literally every thing really does dilute legitimate criticisms.

Yup. The slamming creates reactionary counter-posts which begets more slamming which begets more reactionary counter posts till we are all spinning in the same rut..yet again. Somebody called it a study in cognitive dysfunction today. ****, maybe it is. lol.
