America Sniper Continues To Break Box Office Records, Makes $247 Million So Far
[Image: 2rpp441.jpg]

The popularity of the movie says something very special about the American audience, a sign of the strength that is still there.

Quote:Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper remained a phenomenon in its second weekend, earning a stunning $64.4 million from 3,705 theaters and quickly becoming the No. 2 war film of all time at the North American box office, not accounting for inflation. Its domestic total through Sunday is $200.1 million for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.

In only 10 days in release, American Sniper has eclipsed the $198.5 million earned all in by Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor, and it will soon overtake the $216.5 million grossed by Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan in 1998. Taking inflation into account, Private Ryan would have earned more than $300 million by today’s terms; Sniper is sure to eclipse that number when all is said and done.

Overseas, the decidedly pro-American film earned another $17.6 million from 26 markets, bringing its foreign total to $47.5 million and global haul to $247.6 million. Sniper is a tough sell overseas, but is pulling in solid numbers in Europe and Australia (and it’s a blockbuster in Italy, where Eastwood is an icon).

In an era of limp-wristed metrosexuals, America looks for an unapologetic hero.

There is a lot of truth in that.

I saw American Sniper on Saturday. First time I went to the theater in several years. Can't say if the movie is an accurate portrayal of Chris Kyle or not, but as a visual story it is extremely powerful.

I heard there have been some mutterings that the movie either "glorifies war" or else glorifies the Iraqi campaign. Far from it. The war in Iraq is shown to be hideous, horrible, and something that leaves dead/maimed bodies and broken dreams in its wake. Anyone who sees American Sniper as "propaganda"… doesn't understand what propaganda is.

I agree wholeheartedly Native. Just saw it. When I'm watching it I can't escape the feeling that we lost a hell of a lot over there. Life and limb. No one after watching that is waving Pom Poms shouting USA USA. It's bad enough to be in a war that somebody else started. To quote something along the lines of Rummy. That we chose that timing and the start of that war. Shameful. The boys who went over there did not come back complete. Iraq stole a lot from them.

Or, it's just a legitimately great movie directed by a living legend.

I rank it up there with Saving Private Ryan as one of the Best War movies of the last 20 years. Both Powerful and Unforgettable.

The scene with the butcher drilling into that kids head. The people of Iraq were put through hell. I can't believe anyone would say that's a propaganda movie. Btw, Michael Moore can shut the Fock up too. That anybody could take that movie and make it political. Idiots on both sides.

Sad fact of Middle Eastern life. ISIS is doing the same type of killing today only on a much larger scale with entire villages being destroyed.

Mach that's probably the most honest review I've seen.

I didn't see it as pro-war. I saw it as more of you don't know what our soldiers are seeing and why they come back the way they do.

Let's be honest for those who've seen it, the scene where he's getting his truck serviced and the Marine comes up to him, it was awkward and you could tell it made him uncomfortable.

In the book he talks about his blood pressure and heart rate being all wrong when dealing with civilian life. His BP and HR would be abnormally high.. The doctors then took him to a shooting range, strap him up, and everything is normal. He even admits that he was more comfortable in the combat zone, which is not healthy.

I have a buddy back home who's convoy ran over an IED over there. He lost part of one hand and several fingers off another, messed up his leg, has shrapnel in his body, and he still has trouble sleeping. He knew I had seen the movie and asked me if I thought he should see it. I told him I couldn't answer that, I hadn't seen the things he had. He asked several others, and has decided to read the book, and wait until it comes out on DVD and have several of his Army buddies and family to come over to offer support if he needs it.

Howard Dean: “People Who See American Sniper Are Very Angry,” Probably From Tea Party…

Another brilliant Dem...What a pathetic scumbag....I guarantee you he hasn't even seen the movie. The hate on the left they love to deny is overflowing.

Quote: Former Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean speculated about what has motivated people to flock to movie theaters in droves to see “American Sniper,” the movie about the life of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle.

“There’s a lot of anger in this country, and the people who go see this movie are people who are very angry,” Dean said on “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday.

“This guy basically says, ‘I’m going to fight on your side,’” Dean said of Kyle, who was the most prolific sniper in U.S. military history. The legendary sniper was murdered at a Texas gun range in 2013.

“I bet you if you looked at the cross-section of the tea party and people who see this movie there’s a lot of intersection,” the former governor of Vermont continued.

The Clint Eastwood-directed film, which is nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture, has earned nearly $200 million at the box office since its release last week, making it one of the highest-grossing films ever released during the month of January.

Ain't he the one that during a campaign speech tried to cut a promo for the World Wrestling Entertainment?

Democrats and any like minded spirits would be wise to avoid any negative commentary on the movie. Ive been thinking about the movie all day. Might see it again.

Oh it's getting bought when it comes out.

I'll put it right there with Lone Survivor.. When and/if there are little gdunns and gdunnettes, when they get older and we talk about 9/11 and the wars that ensued, we'll talk about those two movies.

Yeah that was a good movie. I believe that was the first serious combat encounter in Vietnam.
They just happened to pick a LZ that had thousands of NVA nearby.

Read the book. It's excellent and required reading at some military institutions.

My GF don't do war movies so I'm waiting for it to come out on DVD, Redbox, or Netflix. What about Platoon, does it trump that one?
