WKU and MTSU recruiting
This will be your first football recruiting after a season in CUSA. Are you getting better or about the same recruits as when you were in the fun belt? Just curious.

Way too early to know. I suspect since this is MT's second off season in CUSA and WKU's first off season following their jump from Sunbelt (coupled with their Bowl Victory) Western may have a little better bump in recruiting than MT. Both of us target all second level HS stars in the Greater Nashville area. Neither of us ever get a 5 star, and seldom a 4 star recruit. So, it's always about the DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH!

Middle has already been in CUSA x 2 yrs. To answer the question, being in CUSA does seem to have improved the quality of recruits we would normally get. Waiting to see how most pan out on the field.

I think conference will have an influence, but our whole program has changed. We went from a power I offense to Bobby P, to The Brohm Squad. Our coaching staff has picked up a lot of KY kids who are not getting looks due to the perception of HS ball here, but I see a lot of potential in these guys. Taggart had a pipeline flowing with talent from south fl. Earned a 5* transfer from UF, now in the league. Bobby P hit GA and AL the hardest.

Sorry forgot MTSU was in 2 years. Tech is getting some good recruits but it is more coach dependant than conference. I never really believe the ratings çause some of the high school talent is way over or underrated based on where they have offers.

RE: WKU and MTSU recruiting
Yeah, I'm not sure. Like TOT said, Brohm has changed our recruiting strategy to get more overlooked in-state players. I think that the better in-state players are signing with WKU now more than they had in the past, but that might have just as much to do with us beating UofK two years in a row as it does CUSA. And of course most recruits we signed since joining may not get a lot of playing time for another year or two. So it is just not clear at this point.

RE: WKU and MTSU recruiting
I think UAB had more to do with the overall impact of Western's recruiting this year...

on the field results. Getting 2 potential (very likely) defensive starters (Jontavious Morris & Shaq Jones ) from them this coming year could be a game changer. Along with 2 other players that will be a huge help at safety.

With football it's always better to look at recruiting after year 2 of that class or at the earliest 1.5 years because I put little faith in the star system.

RE: WKU and MTSU recruiting
I think basketball has definitely benefited the most...Harper even said our 2 guys we got out of Memphis, we would not have gotten if still in Sun Belt....IN football we have a lot of good JUCO talent coming on defensive side and I think around Nashville area, CUSA has helped....I think we are getting a lot more in state kids because UK is overlooking and going into Ohio to recruit...I think we benefit from this because some of our best players have been from Kentucky and a lot of these guys with proper coaching can thrive and really develop into good players at WKU...
