That's a good point, but another thing I don't like about the Atlantic Ten is how they share their NCAA credits. They just split it evenly across the board, whereas in the MVC the team that's actually in the tournament gets a slightly bigger share.
I agree that there are more good teams at the top of the Atlantic Ten. I just also think there are more on the bottom as well. Fordham is a displaced Patriot League team that doesn't even try, and the league has no way of really mandating that they do try. Most of my issues with the A10 are more administrative than anything else. I do like a lot of the programs in the conference, though. I'm just not a huge fan of some of the decisions they've made, mostly with their stupid TV deal.

All good, relevant points. We all know the a-10 isn't happening regardless, so it really doesn't matter. My point was strictly on the court, the a-10 was a better league. The mvc always has a lot of good to decent teams, but not quite as many top 50 teams. I am all for the mvc if we have to move, and they want us. It's the best we can do in a bad situation. If that doesn't work out, it's going to be a disaster no matter where we go.

Any future conference affiliation for UAB that requires a plane flight for every single away game for all our teams is a disaster.
Also to be considered is the academic ranking of a future conference affiliation.
This puts UaB in a no-win scenario, and exactly where the BOT wants us. The controllers of the board want us to be the 13th grade/remedial learning center in Birmingham. Just wait until our conference mates are Chattanooga Tech, Valdosta Motorcycle repair juco & Panama City Court Reporting college.
EDIT: The loss of football puts UaB Basketball in exactly the same scenario as UaH hockey.
That being : The only decent fit for the level of competition we have enjoyed up to this point will become too costly to continue .

WCC has consistently been a top ten conference for 5 years or so now. The asun is nowhere near that. Gonzaga can still get an at large because they are gonzaga and play a great OOC schedule. We aren't in the same boat. It's going to be really hard to get players to come here if 65 percent of our games are terrible.

None of this matters. The posters on this board will have absolutely no say in the ultimate decision. As a matter of fact, neither will Watts. Given the position he has put us in, if C-USA gives us the boot, he will have to go with hat in hand to beg one conference after another down a list of increasingly bad choices until he can get one of them to accept us.
And I don't trust Watts to make much of an effort or to be effective even if he gives it his best. In college administration circles he has to be extremely damaged goods.
I pray that C-USA remembers what UAB was before Watts, looks past Watts and gives us a chance to restore Football, ditch Watts. and right the ship.

Prayer is a good tactic but it is one of desperation. Planning on the other hand is what you do to try to find a future action path that you can actually follow. Today (WED 1/28/15) is the last day of the C-USA meetings in Boca Raton so we may have some indication of their decision by the end of the week. As stated earlier, if ejected, UAB has a few months (to 6/30/15) to make its plans for its athletic future and "get its ducks in a row". Who will be the school's decision makers now?

Unfortunately acts of desperation are all that is left for folks like us since Watts and company obviously don't have a plan and don't seem to be too concerned about making it up as they go along.
