The officials aren't nearly as bad as the rule changes in recent years turning the defensive secondary into a flag football/basketball hybrid to favor the pass happy, no-huddle offenses. Punishing the receiver for going over the middle used to be a defensive strategy. Now we have "targeting" which makes me want to puke, buy the players skirts and a sensitivity training video then puke again. We've become a very "soft" culture. Soccer anyone?

Can anyone tell me if there is actually a conference with decent to good crews?

No such thing. Every conference claims they have the worst refs. I don't think it's possible for fans to think they having good officiating crews.

I agree safety is a joke. Let's be men and go back to leather helmets and no pads.

Well, PARTIALLY true... we actually get the SEC's JV refs for on the job training :sarcasm:

That's actually a good idea that would bring back tackling - you know - shoulder to midsection and wrap up as opposed to launching one's body. "Safety" should be determined by the player. The idea that a governing body imposes restrictions because it knows better than the people is what has led to this soft culture.

The governing body imposes those restrictions because they are the ones that will have to pay out for CTE lawsuits.

Yeah well I like my soft culture where I have a reasonable assurance that the stuff labeled ground beef isn't ground cat and dog and my kids toys aren't painted with lead paint and people can't whip up a mixture of toxic crap, add alcohol and flavoring and sell it to me as a cure for a disease.
