USM boards have posts calling the new CUSA a joke. In reality it is USM that is the joke. Some USM fans live in the past. Hopefully USM can actually do something that will be a positive to this conference. Up to now, USM has been a weight around the neck of the new CUSA.

it's funny....I am certain I was one of the few that liked most schools leaving and stood up for the replacements....

yep......that was an easy one....

it scares me how little thought goes into what it really takes to suck(cede).....

I really like what CUSA has done for WKU so far. But, man, I've never witnessed a more downtrodden fanbase than that at USM. Sorta makes me miss the days of schools that just don't care, like ULM or Georgia State.

Seriously, it's like a perpetual Suicide Watch with you USM fans. Suck it up and do better!

yep, it's a toss-up between being 'spoiled' or being 'spoiled'

...have a hard time dealing with some in our fan base....

I've learned to deal with, "ifn ya aint frum hur....ya aint frum hur"

it's unnerving at times.....it's like the baptist preacher....they really don't get how others perceive....

I only observe.....(it's painful as of late)

We're not exactly at a high point for sure, but saying we're a weight around the conference's neck is a bit much.

If you have a problem with what's being said on "USM boards," plead your case there instead of here.

USM has proven in the past that, with the right leadership and the guts to punch "better" teams in the nose, they can be an asset to this conference. That leadership may have jumped ship, but the guts never left. Once the leadership issue is resolved, they'll find their guts and we'll go back to resenting USM for beating us.

USM is an asset because people actually give a crap about our teams, to a much greater extent than is typical at the SUNWACUSA level.

this is where SJ used to piss me off.....sometimes history does matter.....

when I lived my previous life and traveled, it was always in gear.....

'they' all knew brett and the 'burg....I never had to initiate the convo....

it doesn't take long to forget......

Exactly. We've squandered a lot of that in 2.5 years, but not so much that anyone needs to be thumbing their noses at us.

that is correct....we earned our place at the alter and are now suffering....
'they' forget where we are located.....and 'if' (and I believe)....our geographical make-up coupled 'with' can still be a powerful marketing sword.....

stab the bastards with a grin until that point!

You mean like tying for the Conference Championship in Men's basketball, and finishing second in Women's last year? Some of our "fans" are certainly tools....05-nono

Yes, USM is down right now, and their plight is good reminder to ALL of us that we are all just one hire away from being awful (I'll use Mark Snyder as an example at Marshall.)

But I have always, and still do, consider USM to be the flagship University of C-USA in its current, and past iterations. I think most of us are absolutely wanting USM to be back in the hunt and capable of kicking tail up and down the conference in all sports, but particularly football. I also think it will happen and see signs that you are on the road to recovery. I'm glad you fan base is pissed off. Nothing wrong with that. Do something with that anger

I will say that USM is at a crossroads. We could be poised for great things. We could also be the next ULM. Some things will just depend on the direction of the economy. Bobby Jindal's relentless urge to shut down colleges across the border in LA only helps us, but we have to take advantage.

Fortunately the leaders responsible for putting us at that crossroads are gone, and they aren't coming back, though maybe some should be visited with tar and feathers for the grief they caused.

Oh, I agree. I would just say, make sure you include Shelby Freeloader Thames in that number. By the time Aunt Martha, General Hammond, Pappy Butterface, etc. showed up, our fate was largely determined already. We'd already been left out of the Big East at least twice. The talent level of the football team had already declined. Stadium expansion had already fizzled and then been reborn in midget form, the IHL was already pissed at us (Thames tried to cheat our enrollment numbers into the #1 spot), etc.

The rot began with Thames, and it's been an uphill climb since. Second place goes to Richard Giannini, a man who did a great job except for his complete lack of ambition and respect for USM.
