RE: UAB
I agree RR if there was a plan B that could have altered UAB it would have been nice.. Perhaps a few zone looks? however our man defense was not terrible we switched off screens fairly well . I did see a few gaps and missed assignments with Pallamore. Man UAB hit nothing but net on almost all of their possessions and also out rebounded us too- that also was a dagger. There were times when we cut it to 6 with the ball and we turned it over on at least 3 or 4 opportunities - stolen pass, dribble of knee, missed rebound off knee etc.. We didn't get those types of plays that we normally get.. Painful outcome.

RE: UAB
Next year we will have Caver in instead of Palmore and by all accounts Caver can really play. Not gonna help this year but this rebuilding job not gonna happen overnight. Hope the last slot we have is filled with a player ready to come right in and play. Talley and Caver will help a lot but they are guards. Man, we need some interior presence, hope it's coming down the pipeline.

LSU was early on when Freeman was an unknown quantity. He surprised a lot of people.
Same with VCU, and like ODU, the lambs are a finesse team, not an over-powering one.
There were hints as far back as the Ga State game, and certainly W&M, that we could be in for some trouble.
As someone alluded to earlier in this thread; the opposing coaches are learning to solve Freeman. That is huge.
Additionally, opposing coaches are realizing that we are, for the most part undersized, and thus are learning to bang and lean. This wears us down physically, and even more, it wears us down mentally. We rush shots, take ill advised shots, and seem generally rattled.
Even FTs are affected.
On defense we are tentative, giving too much space, or over compensating and committing fouls.
This due to physical and mental fatigue, plain and simple.
Finally, the past two games Richard Ross has not played above the rim at all. Something is really wrong.
We don't have the bigs to play inside, but "air" Ross can and has compensated for that.
If Ross doesn't return to form, the rest of the season could be disappointing at best.
Home games will certainly be a welcome respite.
With Trey averaging 16ppg and 3 apg, I'm not sure coaches are "solving" him. He is THE ONLY consistent person on the team!
Yes indeed, it is difficult to argue that the opposition has "solved" Trey based on his statistics. He certainly is our most consistent and productive player, hands down. Without him we might be no better than a four win team right now.
However, what I meant is that the opposition seems to be disrupting his initial timing, and his vision, and thus many of our set plays. Whereas he, as PG, seemed to be directing a well oiled machine earlier in the season, much of what we do in the half court now seems haphazard right from the start.
It appears to me that the opposition is keying on Trey, and thus preventing him from running the offense as it should be run.
Without an appreciable inside (post) game, this is a problem.

RE: UAB
Numerous times yesterday I watched Freeman, Bacote, Palmore and I think Baker drive the lane, only to run into a wall of UAB defenders directly under the basket. This effectively shut our guards down and made them scramble for some other option. It really pointed out the disparity in size and our lack of low post options.

RE: UAB
Let's not blow this loss out of proportion. I was cerainlly hoping to win last night but this was a game I knew we may lose at the start of the road trip. The MTSU game I was hoping and expecting to win. A road loss to UAB does not define us.
It is dissapoiting how all the CUSA teams played horrible at the start of the season and have now found their groove. They wrecked the CUSA RPI.

We find ourselves victims of " Great Expectations." This team has come a long way in a short while.

on a side note I do not like Tim Scarborough. Maybe it is because of his Liberty envy of ODU.

RE: UAB
Color guys who try to sound like Bill Rafftery are really lame. The play by play guy with Blaine was pretty good. He and BT make a good team.

Yeah the BT team was pretty good much better than what I was expeting. This Scarborough guy just does not seem to care much for ODU.
