Okay I really don'the like saying bad things about players but since we are getting slow around here I'm going to bring it up. Who is the most disappointing player to try and play for EMU any sport? Mine is a player named Tory Mills great skills but no head for the game.

Devontae Payne. Donald Scott. Hate to say it, but so far you have to put Brogan Roback on the list. He was quite possibly the most highly touted recruit in MAC history, certainly in EMU history.

Hard to argue with Roback. I remember how psyched I was when he signed here. Although Reggie Bell showing a ton of promise has helped to alleviate the disappointment.

I was only in high school back when they played here, but I think Darryl Garrett and Rico Harris could probably be thrown in too.

But how is it his fault and how is it the coaching fault? With Tory it was purely on him he just didn't want to play.

Hm Hart in basketball I agree with Harris and Garrett. I'm going way back to a QB in football from the Ypsilanti area Scott Davis, Roback if he stays may have a chance to redeem himself.

Sigh. Another good one. I really thought Bronson had a chance to get drafted if he would've built on his impressive junior year. He has nfl caliber speed/size...unfortunately it sounds like the effort wasn't there.

I'll never forget that Toledo game though. That was so fun to watch.

I was always told that Kylo Jones, who played alongside Washington at WMU, transferred to EMU after averaging 14 a game his sophomore season. He just didn't want to play any more. He never touched a ball for EMU.

Jerome Harrison, RB: I don't recall that he actually made it into a game. I think he was hurt and had a dispute with Rasnick about his readiness to play. He transferred to Washington State where he became the nation's leading rusher and then played almost six seasons in the NFL. Unfortunately his NFL career was cut short by a brain tumor discovered when he was examined by the Detroit Lion physicians.

Antonio Gates
Football: Practiced with us, but never played in a game because he was kicked off the team. He went on to become an NFL all-pro TE. Never played in college.
Basketball: Played about a season and a half before being kicked off the team. He transferred to Kent where his teams made it to the NCAA I think twice.

Before he was at EMU he was at MSU on football scholarship, but left before he ever played.

RE: I've been debating doing this but...
Rick Granata football: Rick was a stocky, but slick, powerful RB with great hands who played for Rasnick. He held the MI HS record for career touchdowns and had nearly 3,000 yards rushing ONE season.

Granata left after his second season and transferred to I think Saginaw Valley.

He performed well at EMU and and seemed ready to be a full fledged star. Rumor was that Granata wanted the ball more than Rasnick would give it to him. Rasnick preferred to spread the ball around.

Rick Buttrom basketball: This is an old one from Ben Braun's early days. Rick was a highly touted low post power forward. With his physical tools and basketball skills he should have dominated the league. He left EMU and I believe he went to San Diego State, but he ended up coming back. Such decisions surely hurt his career. He contributed, but never really seemed to blossom.

I don't know if Braun brought him to EMU or if it was Jim Boyce, Braun's predecessor.

Derek Lowe-basketball. Braun recruited him out of Dearborn. He never played, I guess he decided he had a better future in baseball. Seems it turned out pretty well for him.

For football, I'll say Kainoa Akina. Tremendous freshman year as starting QB. Transferred to Hawaii and was never heard from again.

Always thought Kinsman Thomas had a shot to be really good.

I agree with Kinsman, thought he could have been Greg Jennings MAC type player.

I thought of him too. He signed to play at EMU with a bunch of other high caliber recruits, but out of the blue he was drafted in the fifth round of the MLB draft and he signed with Seattle.

He had a fine MLB career which appears to be finally over after 17 seasons.

He was from Arizona, but born in Hawaii. He played two seasons w/ Hawaii after transferring from EMU, but hardly saw any action. I believe he played for June Jones, but behind a guy who set all kind of records

Akina was a Woodruff recruit. He was very athletic, but kind of small.

That was the first EMU game I attended, I've been hooked since.
