As someone who has smoked, who's hung out in bars, and doesn't smoke.. I'm torn on this. A bar without cigarette smoke doesn't seem right, however, I do enjoy coming home without smelling like a smoke factory.

I stumbled upon a Redneck bar outside of Richmond not long ago and everyone in there was smoking. Even though it is illegal to smoke inside bars/restaurants in Virginia, this was one bar that didn't give an F. I went home and smelled freaking awful and my clothes smelled bad enough for me to have to put them in a bag. I had totally forgotten how bad I used to smell after a night at the bar before it was illegal to smoke in VA. I think the law is BS, but I'm not dying to smell like smoke again after a few pints.

Let the market and business owners decide is my opinion. In most cases today, they are better off not allowing it, but that redneck bar should have every right to accomodate their patrons for a legal activity.

I quit smoking a few mos. before the change in the 'burg.....

It was scary nasty walking into the End Zone....smokers in the 'burg tried to make it a big deal initially......it became 'no big deal' very quickly....

when I started again after 7 years.....it was really nasty walking into the 'smoke rooms' in ATL and CVG



I think it's a good thing for a variety of reasons.....

any (govt. enforced) ban on any legal activity is totalitarianism.

This. It should be perfectly fine to have Smoking Allowed establishments that hire only smokers as workers.

The thing I've noticed most is after being in the smokeless bars and restaurants and having a few drinks or pints, the lingering Hangover effect is extremely reduced the next day. The Smoke had to contribute to the added congestion with the hangovers.

I hope they don't pass that. How else will we weed out the flock a little bit more?

I think it's a good thing for a variety of reasons.....

yeah, i've smoked in both those airports. the one in atl wanted me to buy a drink if i wanted to watch television. i could only have imagined how my wife felt once i finished my smoke. you do it though. it's f*cking depressing being in there. back in aught four, i was in heathrow (london) and their designated smoking area was a pile of chairs next to a vendor, nothing quarantined. i thought it was hilarious. and then i went to buy a pack of cigarettes the next day in dublin. that wasn't hilarious

There is no doubt that nicotine contributes to bad handovers. When I quit?..I noticed a marked decrease in hangover intensity and duration.

that shite WAS depressing....the only reason I started smoking again was b/c I was 280 and got divorced at 40....it wasn't due to the divorce....it was simply b/c I knew the 20 somethings didn't want fk a fat fk...and I'm 6' 3"....dropping back to my fighting weight of 220 was easy with the assistance of nicotine....

there is a reason it's number one on my 'most addictive' list....it's 'two' on the other....

The ATL smokers lounge is nasty, but necessary. Airports should be required to have them. To go outside requires coming back in through security, which you don't have time to do, especially in larger airports, if your layover short. Flying is stressful enough, but getting on a 2nd or 3rd plane without having a cigarette since you got out of the car in the morning is off the charts and puts me on the verge of a tipping point. Providing a smokers lounge benefits smokers and non-smokers alike.

it's an open secret that i'm pining for the end of the world so that i'll have an excuse to pick up smoking again. i dream about it almost every night. even my daydreaming nostalgia is about me and the open road puffing on a square somewhere in wisconsin. it's always the same trip for some reason. i don't think i could resort back to cigarettes though. it sounds like too adult of a decision.

of course i haven't quit the habit of nicotine since i vape (that term still isn't sinking in). i feel like a poseur around other smokers and i know i shouldn't care. ahh, i have fond memories of my after dinner mint

I vape at the office and in public (take a trip to the bathroom to get my fix at the bar/restaurant), but I still smoke when I drive and at home. I have become a closet smoker outside my immediate family.

i don't get why people vape and smoke. vaping is an alternative to cigarettes. outside of my house and car, i treat it like such. i know there is a vapor thread out there, but do you enjoy it? i had no intentions of quiting smoking until my father's wife gave me a vape pen, that was in august of aught 13. i love cigarettes soo much more, but i haven't had one since. but i would never judge a smoker if they wanted to smoke

I'm addicted to the nicotine. Vaping is ok and takes the edge off so I can vape for 9 hours at the office without having to step out for a smoke break, but I prefer the real thing. I have cut the smoking back to about 1/2 pack a day whereas I used to be a solid pack a day a year ago. I can't seem to make the full switch. It lasts a few days, but by the weekend, I am always buying cigarettes.

Bars, restaurants, and any other establishments should have the option to be smoke free or smoke allowed. If I want to go to a smoke free restaurant then I'll go to a smoke free restaurant. I never understood the ungodly bashing people love to put on smoking/smokers.

FTR, even when I was a smoker, smoky bars would dry my eyes and cause them to start burning within a couple of hours. At that point, I made a decision to either stay or go. Never once did I biitch about it. As I avoid the Central Stations (gay bars) and Koko Pele's (all black bars), so shall a non smoker avoid a smoking bar.

Often...Smokers are their own worst enemy. I was a smoker for 3 decades. It is a filthy habit. Quitting was the best thing I ever did.
