It is all over Twitter and there seems to be a lot of interest from Tech .....who knows.

Hope we can keep him, but I wish him the best regardless. He's been an asset to the program and he is a deserving candidate for that position at VT.

Would be very sorry to see him go, but not surprised to see our staff start to get some high level recognition. Should he leave we may miss him on the recruiting trail as much as on the field. Probably something we will have to get used to as our profile continues to rise. All the more reason we need to find ways to increase funding to keep the staff compensated at a competitive level. I wish him all the best should he decide the move is whats best for him.

That would be a huge loss. According to 247 he us currently CUSA's top recruiter handling the 757 for us. I wish him the best if that's what he wants, but he will leave big shoes to fill. Also I hope it won't affect our current crop of recruits.

If I were him I'd parlay that into some sort of raise and stay at Old Dominion.

He has a really good job in his hometown and under a coach that will be around forever.

When Zohn left for Richmond and returned to ODU it was clearly a testimonial of the mutual like and respect Bobby and Zone have for each other. Like you ODUR8R, I hope Old Dominion will be in a position to keep him. If we are able to keep him the bottom line is it will involve a pay raise.

2012 - Present: Old Dominion University - Wide Receivers
2011: University of Richmond - Wide Receivers
2007 - 2010: Old Dominion University - Defensive Backs
2006: Fork Union Military Academy - Wide Receivers/Defensive Backs

Whether we like it or not, we can't match an acc school in salary for assistant coaches.

It's just not going to happen.

If va tech offers him the job, he will go, simple as that.

Raise student athletic fees so we can keep him. If he wants more money a higher risk of being without a job in 2 to 3 years that will be his decisions.

We are already facing a cap of 55% of athletics being funded by student fees. Although we have 10 years to comply that would not be a good start.

RE: According to David Teel...
He is probably exploring his options to increase salary or may be he really wants to work for hokies. Lets be honest most of us work for a paid salary and would be happy with a raise or promotion and i for one would be very happy with both 02-13-banana Burden is not an ODU Alum and he do not have special ties with our school so that makes it easy for him to choose monetary increase or more visibility that he gets at VT than it is for any of us. If some one offers a substantial increase and a promotion i would definitely grab it and be thankful so i don't see how any one can blame Burden if he chose to leave even though we would be upset it is his decision in the end that matters. Good Luck Burden hope you stay with us.

You might want to rethink this one.

RE: According to David Teel...
My first year at Salem was his last. He went all state under Beatty's whirlwind system. I played with his younger brother at Salem my remaining 3 years.

When I started helping as a student manager with the football team in Feb 2008 (where my brother was trying out and would later make it) he was already there. He was there when I left to focus on Masters.

He left, and came back.

In retrospect I think he's more of an ODU fan than I am, and I'd like to think I am a pretty strong fan. I would like him to stay. Ultimately I would like what is best for Zohn, so if that is at Tech, I would like him to go to Tech.

I've got Salem ties as well. Went to Salem MS two years. Used to enjoy watching Zohn play for coach Cochrane along with John Gilchrist. They had a strong team.

RE: According to David Teel...
I think he's gone from my what I can tell.

He was the lowest paid coach on staff. He was one of the most valuable. Who is going to walk into Landstown or Salem HS now and have the same effect as Zohn Burden on this ODU staff? He's the only one with any ties to this area.

We probably should have been paying him more and definitely should make a strong push to keep him. Imagine Burden at Virginia Tech and Beatty at UVA. We would rarely win for a recruit in our own backyard. Yikes!

I doubt we could win a salary war with VT, especially with as bad as they want to recruit the 757.
