Barkers doesnt care , he stated he is a former Major conf player , but his posts are mostly negative. Of course if you work in a certain department you are privileged to certain information , but should that info be dished to the fans asap ........i dont agree.

But it is what it is , and people love exclusive info.

Barkers has to be on the staff (stiff one) of either Charlie King or Jeff Bourne

I'm sure JMUJohn98 will be glad to share his perfect opinion on who we should have hired. Can't count on him to follow up on negative insinuations about Villanova's football coach, but he'll definitely tell us about 2-3 coaches he is personally best friends with that JMU turned down.

Hyper,
I didn't know the JMU men's basketball job was already open... As for best friends, I'm proud of John DeFilippo. Only 32 football coaches in the world are NFL offensive coordinators and there are hundreds of thousands of football coaches. Time will tell on Withers, but things sure worked out okay for Flip.

"Time will tell on Withers"? That is NOT what you had to say about EW or Mike Battle not too long ago. Maybe you should make up your mind.

If Barkers is on the staff in the athletic department he should be fired. No way this thread should have ever been started.

Just a fan who knows a little bit more information, I wouldn't really consider this information "leaks". I think a few of you are peeved because you have "guys in the athletic department" and don't like the information unless it paints picture you want to see. A lot of these are just my opinions on Jmu sports, same as yours and if you don't lie then you are free to ignore or form your own opinions.

This is exactly what a message board is all about ---- bits and pieces of rumors and info regarding a train-wreck that in this case is MBB. If you don't like it just read what gets posted on JMUsports.com and there you can get the rainbow and Unicorn version of the information.

And if the current players have so little pride in their game that a message board thread regarding a coach's future that seems to have little to no control over his team impacts them in a negative manner --- too bad. They should be just a little bit tougher than that and have more pride in themselves than that.

Barkers is not negative, Barkers sees the reports the truth. A problem with a portion of the JMU community, if it's not puppies and rainbows, it's "negative". Excellence is not achieved through everybody holding hands and singing Imagine.

JMU has a huge athletic budget with DII branding. Evidently, it's all Matt Brady's fault.

JMU would see a better result from firing Bourne and keeping Brady than the other way around. Firing both could be supported.

Bourne firing Brady with no other changes, that would be the JMU M.O., and what we may get or there is a chance we get nothing at all...

I am neutral on Brady, players leaving in droves in a concern but I can't ignore the fact that Brady cannot recruit players in VA because under Bourne directorship as AD, JMU can't make a VA recruits top 10 list of programs to consider in his own state.

RE: Matt Brady
APR issues wont come into play in the near-term so they will not have an impact on the job status of MB until a point where we could already fire him for relative peanuts (i.e. next year or the year after). Our numbers have been good enough that it would take a REALLY bad year or two kinda bad years to get us into deep enough trouble. Since most of our troubles have more to do with transferring players (vs issues with current players with bad grades) APR should be a non issue in time to fire MB early.

JMU may find themselves missing postseason play at some point soon (I am not certain we will but seems plausible that it COULD happen), but JMU will have their next coach by the time we even find out about the postseason ban.

Worse case may actually be to fire him due to APR issues as that would just be another factor impacting our coaching search and JMU will already have a hard enough time recruiting a good candidate.

I am confused about your last remark. How do you feel Bourne is affecting Brady's ability to recruit in-state? Because of the overall marketing of the athletic department?

Also, we should decide whether pairing puppies or unicorns with rainbows is optimal. I vote unicorns.

The team minus Nation is playing better at the moment and seems to have some good chemstry- it's kind of like telling your 5 year old that Santa Claus doesn't exist a month away from Christmas IMO. Let's see how it plays out. I think it would look odd if JMU severed ties with their coach if this team was to make it to the NCAAs but they are a long way from that anyway. Regardless I do feel that whether Brady stays on or they make a change the program is in a lot better shape than the past two coaching changes and JMU MBB is well positioned to be good over the next 3-5 years. I also think that if they acted swiftly and brought in the right person (commiting the appropriate amount of resources) they could keep a lot of the current and prospective players in the program.

Except the 5 year old is actually 13 and already told all the other kids on the school bus. Brady on the chopping block is nothing new to those following JMU basketball and especially the players. You seem to imply that the players are going to quit for the season knowing that Brady is gone after the season. I think they are playing for their own recognition and success, not that of Brady's, I'm not worried about them quitting with coach firing rumors.

Not directed at NJDUKE but I find it funny that people hate on Barkers for sharing
"insider" information but then do the exact same thing in other threads whether it is on recruits, coaches, athletic department direction.

Bingo!!! Our athletic department branding is horrible, Bourne admitted a few weeks ago, "We've not had an athletic vision since I've been here." UVA & Tech forget about it... ODU/VCU/GMU forget about it... I know CUSA is not a power basketball conference but any of the these schools would laugh at recruiting against JMU for a VA basketball recruit...how many legit D1 players from VA do we have on the roster?

Our biggest branding statement if BFS...people say to me "why did JMU build that stadium, JMU plays DII football?"

I vote puppies, and the puppy bowl. I expect Tom Yeager will claim the puppy bowl is not as exciting as the fcs playoffs.

Like I said earlier, we always go round and round on this with the Barker defenders distorting the argument of those who think he sometimes posts stuff he shouldn't. It has nothing to do with whether it's likely true or not. Some stuff just shouldn't be posted on an anonymous message board if someone truly has the best interest of JMU and its student-athletes at heart. No one likes or defends the negatives - every school has issues, and stuff like firings and suspensions will obviously be made public, but, generally speaking, sensitive matters that affect specific students or personnel should be made public in some official way at the appropriate time.

I wonder if the revered Dr. Carrier would have survived his presidency if every rumor that floated around about him was publicly disclosed on a message board.

that's the way I look at it.

someone who never posts anything having to do with the actual games, then comes on and says people have drinking problems, are about to be suspended (before the player was even informed!), fired, whatever.....and claims he is only doing this in the best interest of those people in the program? bull****.

without posting the "other" stuff that is routinely posted by board members on here about actual games, etc.....it's pretty sleazy in my opinion. And the fact that he lied on here about who he is just furthers my opinion of the agenda and sleaziness of the whole thing.

but, I'll be in the minority on this one. I'm ok with that.

Should barkers be moved the list of JMU employees eligible to be held accountable?

Accountable
Mickey Mathews (check)
Matt Brady (fo' shizzle)
JMUbarkers (?)

Not Accountable*
All other employees
Bourne* (not a chance)

RE: Matt Brady
I hope we do not fire coach Brady. 1.) I like the guy. 2.) He has done a solid job in a difficult situation 3.) This team will be playing good ball come the CAA tournament. 4.) Northeastern is a brutal place to play----On the ice.... Don't know how many of you have been there... 5.) A restart puts us right back to 2008---New Coach would likely win 20 games with a couple of his own and most of Matt's players then we have a drop off.... 6.) I think Brady has made some important key changes to his staff which have been reflective moving forward. 7.) See # 1.

I know he has made some mistakes-I know that people dislike that he lives almost to Charlottesville-Some kids have not panned out- but Some have left for reason that had nothing to do with Matt or staff. Matt Brady is a smart man, a good basketball coach, and has shown he can win, and that he can coach.

Billy Coen got the best of us---And I think he also is a fantastic coach---Boston College fell apart when he departed(was a member of Skinners staff).
Joe at Hofstra is an excellent coach as well
Tony Shaver if it wasn't for the W-L total would probably have been out of William and Mary for a better job years ago.
Brady is our coach and to evaluate this season when we are not even half way through the CAA season is unfair. If we win the CAA tournament it would be unacceptable to let him go... and nobody would touch the job. You want to be an appealing job, and you want make sure you can get an upgrade.

As always I am sure someone will destroy my grammar or spelling.

Go Dukes! Beat Hofstra.
