Buffalo is having a rough year because of their postseason ban due to APR issues. They have a new coach, John Stutzman, who had success at Bloomsburg. They'll turn it around soon. All the guys in the lineup basically have their year to compete, but no postseason. Hard to swallow for a senior like Soria, who's made the NCAA championships before.

What I was impressed with was the bonus points. Buffalo isn't one of those teams the bad ODU teams used to crush (like now-defunct Wagner) so I was pleased with the five bonus victories. I think if Beazley can replicate his tenacity on the college mats like he does in Greco, he'll be hard to beat. I think his recent performance is building some confidence. This kid has AA potential for sure.

I looked at Buffalo's roster last night. Virtually every member of the the roster is a true freshman, redshirt freshman, or sophomore. Stutzman has turned the program over already. They'll be decent in short order.

I enjoyed parts of the match last night, but my biggest gripe with the team right now is that we're not building leads. We had situations last night where we could've scored points by cutting guys, but we were content to ride for 3/4/5 minutes. The problem is twofold: 1) we're wasting time riding the guy beyond 2 minutes if we can't turn him, & 2) it's downright boring! We're never going to get casual fans to come watch if we're just going to put saddles on people.

I agree. If we can solve issue 1, then issue 2 should solve itself.

I agree - endless riding creates a dull atmosphere.

I hate riding time. Always have. Another element of confusion for college wrestling. Needs to be a better solution for tiebreakers, too.

Careful which rankings referenced when talking about some opponents.

Kent State is now 6-10 and no where near the Top 25 according to the USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll (which I administer). Any rankings with Kent State that high are "tournament" rankings which take the number of points a wrestler is projected to get based on the top 20 ranking.

A few years ago, Binghamton was ranked 9th in the country because they had two guys ranked in the Top 5 (tournament points). They were 2-15 as a dual team.

If I were to give Kent State a numerical ranking when it came to dual meets, that would probably be in the 35 range.

Case of the SIDs around the country not using the only true dual meet poll. Some sites have what they call "Dual meet rankings" but they are one person's opinion and aren't voted on.

As far as Kent State goes, I was pleased with Richardson's performance. DePalma beat Lenny 7-1 last year. Beazley has won six in a row and is hopefully getting that confidence I touched on in the previous post.

I really like the Kent State staff and they do get into some heated discussions with Coach Martin. It's developing into a nice rivalry that started prior to the two teams being in the same conference.

BTW, in case you didn't know, you don't want to mess with Ian Miller...that dude is real!
