QB Recruiting in Review
It has really been feast or famine with our QB recruiting. We're lucky to have hit it big with a few guys considering the number of misses we've had. Here are the QB recruits since 2002, as far back as Rivals lists them.

2002
Phil Horvath - Good junior year, mediocre senior year
Ryan Gilbert - nonfactor

2003
Zach Ullrich - nonfactor
Shedrick Mossman - nonfactor
Andre Brown - Did he qualify?

2004
Dan Nicholson - Started for awhile but not too good.
Britt Davis - Moved to receiver
Chris Carr - nonfactor

2005
Ryan Morris (walkon) - Started a few games, was not allowed to do anything.

2006
Billy Lowe - A legend in these parts.

2007
Chandler Harnish - Finally! Part of Novak's great final recruiting class.
DeMarcus Grady - Was stuck at QB because we were so thin there.
Boone Thorgesen - nonfactor

2008
Brandon Rogers - nonfactor

2009
Jordan Lynch - Yes.
AJ Hill - No.

2010
Casey Weston - The legend part 2.

2011
Matt McIntosh - Got Wally Pipped by Hare.
Devin Rose (walkon) - nonfactor
Sean Strehl (walkon) - nonfactor

2012
Drew Hare - Champion in 2014, still building his legacy.
Matt Williams - nonfactor
Johnny Eagan (walkon) - nonfactor

2013
Anthony Maddie (transfer) -TBD. A backup so far.
Nick Cieslak (walkon) - nonfactor
Octavio Renteria (walkon) - nonfactor
We lost Mitch Kimble right before signing day when he flipped to Syracuse.

2014
Landon Root - nonfactor
Ryan Graham - TBD.

I always wonder what would have happened if Chris Carr would have played, I remember rumors that he would have started if not for his legal problems.

RE: QB Recruiting in Review
Looking at the MAC recruits right now for 2015, eight of the twelve programs have commitments from three star QBs. Obviously Harnish and Lynch were home runs but looking at that list we haven't really ever landed that big time QB recruit. It's interesting because we have brought in serious talent with multiple offers at almost all other positions. Given our system and success you would think a highly rated QB would be an easy get for us. I know stars mean very little but most of the guys on that list had few or no other FBS offers as well.

RE: QB Recruiting in Review
You would think we could get a good dual-threat QB, that's for sure. Certainly somebody comparable or better than the other good MAC teams, though maybe not strictly the best pocket passer. If the coaches are happy with a 2-star recruit I'll put more stock in that than somebody having a 3* rating based on who-knows-what.

81 - great post. Its recruiting you never really know what you are getting on signing day. They are educated guesses. There is a reason Wisc says LB and not QB on Ingold. If he stayed, he probably would not have ended up at QB.

Seems like there's a reasonable chance he won't end up at linebacker at Wisky either.

RE: QB Recruiting in Review
Without doing much research, I would imagine a lot of other schools list don't look that much different. Assuming Hare doesn't lay an egg (or get hurt) the next two years, NIU is going to go through a stretch of 9 years of really only having to play 3 QBs. 2 of which who were the best to ever play the position at NIU and Hare appears on his way to be a good one as well. 81 listed 29 guys in 13 years, so that means you bringing in over 2 guys a season. When you have a stretch of QB play like NIU is having right now, dudes are going to wash out just because of the fact you can only play 1 QB at a time.

Britt was a really productive WR under Novak. Matt Williams seemed to making a solid transition to WR before he left. Grady wasn't good but he did keep the ship afloat when Harnish was out his sophomore year and gave them a chance to beat Ohio and CMU with Harnish back to get to Detroit. I really have no doubt McIntosh would have been a productive QB in this system, and I think he'll have a chance to see the field at safety next year.

So yes, there have certainly been some misses but I don't think it's quite Harnish/Lynch and a bunch of busts as others may think.

Carey has often said he wants to recruit at least 1 QB per year, can't wait to see what he does now. Are there legitimate candidates out there in this class still?

Why does everyone keep asking this? Santa is going to be a scholarship QB.

Thats what I thought, that might be the one QB Carey gets from this recruiting class.

I think he asked because of this comment:

And I've seen it in other posts he may not be a QB. So it sounds like at least we got something coming in this year.

RE: QB Recruiting in Review
I know they came up to look at 2016 class QB Daytona Chandler this year. I've seen him play a couple of times. Solid frame, pretty mobile, throws a nice ball. He would need to work on some decision making, but that's easily teachable as long as your last name isn't Cutler.
