This is no surprise that they would undertake an outside assessment. I would imagine every G5 school will be reassessing its situation with onset of the new NCAA rules.
Fair enough. I just know that I've seen this same type of "review" recently coming from UAB and then all of a sudden they are dropping football and several other programs. Hoping thats not the case with Kent State. That's all.

the fact that schools in the MAC and other G5 even have to do this is pure bull ****, college athletics has been ruined by greed.

You are spot on. No doubt, college athletics has be ruined by those P5 groups.

I strongly doubt KSU will drop any sports.
This study is following a movement by Akron to be completely clear on athletic spending and encouraging the rest of the state universities in Ohio to follow. We'll see where this goes.

Everyone's situation is "different", but there will be schools faced with making some tough choices in deciding to keep up with the P5. You're not going to see press (no matter how minor) given to every school that is analyzing their options (because I'm sure there are others doing so), so I find it interesting to see this KSU article.

Exactly. Paul Bryant Jr. was on the board of the Alabama regents.
It appears the KSU administration is reviewing everything including athletics and academics.

Nothing like wasting good money on a stupid consultation. The AD lines his own pockets better than any other AD in the MAC and wastes the money on this yet pays his people less than anyone else in the conference. Given their limited resources, the athletic programs have had great success over the years.

Consultants exist so you can pay someone else to tell your boss your own opinion.

Also worth noting that KSU has a new president this year that admitted she wants to become More well-versed on athletics. She was a a college coach back in the 70s and understands that benefit that comes from athletics. She was a Provost at VCU at during their Final Four run and saw the direct impact from that run. She is just doing her homework.

One option would be for the MAC to drop down to FCS for football. They isn't getting that much benefit from TV as the power 5 conferences. If would think Kent State consults with Ohio, Miami, BGSU on how open the rest of the MAC would move. Ohio, Miami, BGSU and Kent State are in the sane boat. They got the same issues and difficulties keeping above water in FBS. If Kent State is considering this those other schools aren't far behind. That would provided cover for a school presidents if they all did it at the same time. The deck is really stacked against the MAC in football. Networks would rather show a re-run of an Ohio State game than a live MAC game. That is reality.

Are you saying throw away the 18 Million per conference and 10 Million in TV. So give up 2 Million to save 1.1 million. More likely to drop gymnastics than drop down to FCS Football.

Miami is not in the "same boat". Miami is in the beginning of a $100 million athletics renovation after submitting a full athletics strategic plan to our board. New baseball, hockey, tennis, basketball, and football facilities with more on the way. Kent is evaluating cutting programs, Miami evaluated how to renovate and strategically invest in them. Big difference. Miami has already showed their hand and are fully committed like NIU is.
I know many on this thread say this means nothing for Kent and maybe so, but the tone was not good and the quotes in the article from Kent admin at the very least publicly left open the possibility and could hurt perception and recruiting by leaving doubt that was unnecessary at the least if they arent serious .

If this is just a routine check-up for Kent, those quotes and them not ruling anything out was very foolish and damaging.
