Perhaps it is just me but when a school has 73 percent of its athletic budget from student fees, the school is heading in the wrong direction.

Initial costs of moving to FBS. Over time, given resources to grow, this decreases. Differs from UAB in that UAB has not been given resources and has been kinda stuck in place(although not at 73%)...

Also depends on your priorities. If you're committed to undergraduate growth and experience it's the best marketing tool available. As WB said that cost goes down over time

I did not see any mention in the article about how much the VA state schools had increased their tuition costs in recent times. In Alabama, the tuition costs have been raised almost 50% since 2008 and is expected to be raised annually for the foreseeable future due to decline of SETF per pupil funding. How does the tuition level of VA state FBS universities compare with Alabama's state FBS universities since that figure is the basis for their bill?

Just as others have said, this is more because of the initial rise to FBS than anything else. Still, ODU needs to emphasize alumni giving to the ODAF in order to prevent student fees from being expanded. For years ODU was a basketball-only school and now the funding needs to increase just as our athletic footprint has. I'm sure ODU supporters are up for the challenge!

Go Monarchs! Go Blazers also (especially against the Alabama BOT)!

This might help answer some of your questions: http://www.schev.edu/Reportstats/Tuition...Report.pdf

ODU's tuition for 2014-2015 is: $299 per credit hour or $4,485 a semester for an average amount of credits (15 credits per semester)
https://www.odu.edu/admission/costs-tuit...tion-rates

In 2008, ODU's tuition was: $224 per credit hour or $3,360 a semester for an average amount of credits (15 credits per semester)
https://www.odu.edu/admission/costs-tuit.../2008-2009

So, tuition hasn't doubled for ODU but reduced state funding, more demand for college, and inflation are certainly having an impact on tuition amounts.
