The gymnastics team finished 11th in the country in 2011. They had a top fifteen gymnast in the country in Marie Case. Since then they have not recruited an all around gymnast (Marie graduated in 2014). They have not won a MAC tournament championship. This year they are hosting the MACs and they are currently the second worst team in the 7 team league. I believe they have finished first or second(in either the tournament or regular season) every year since I started watching in 1984. Why? I'm sure Brice hasn't forgot how to recruit and/or coach? The 11th place finish got us nothing on the surface.

This seems to happen to us a lot. The 2002 men's basketball, 2011 baseball, 2011 men's golf, 2012 football, Kilgore winning the NCAAs. Why can't we capitalize on these events? By capitalize I mean turning a solid MAC program into a nationally recognized one such as men's golf or Akrons soccer. I realize some of these items aren't complete yet. The men's golf team is an assumption based on a poor fall season (and I know golf sustained success for a long time but in the last couple of years things are heading down)and who knows Ian Miller might win the NCAA this year and follow in Kilgores footsteps. Both are not likely though. Is the lack of money and great facilities the reason we can't sustain success? Is the original success just pure chance? I think about these things once in awhile and just wonder what everybody thinks. We are a big enough school that you would think one or two of these programs could get over the hump.

Last year was an excellent year for golf. Corey Connors and Taylor Pendrith are two of the very best to ever tee it up for KSU.

This year, we have some excellent freshmen who need some seasoning but are really top flight players. Recruiting is going well as usual. There is no downward trend in golf. Just not as strong last fall as we expect. No reason to be concerned.
