RE: Football recruiting
As far as HS football talent, until recently Louisana was probably the most underrated state as far as D1 talent in the country.

It's probably still vastly underrated.

RE: Football recruiting
Louisiana leads the country in NFL AND NBA players per capita. Lots of talent in the boot.

Many of the KY kids never get evaluated. We have a couple that I have seen film on that have the potential to be very good, but coming out of KY it is tough to get rated highly (outside of the handful that are just a cut above the rest each season).

Just as an example using 247sports:

Louisiana (pop. 4.6 mil) - 1x 5 star - 11x 4 star - 85x 3 star
Kentucky (pop. 4.4 mil) - 1x 5 star - 1x 4 star - 10x 3 star
Mississippi (pop. 3.0 mil) - 0x 5 star - 7x 4 star - 35x 3 star

Granted certain areas put more of an emphasis on football than others, but I don't think the gap is as big as the numbers above lead you to believe.

To compare Kentucky football to Louisiana HS football is retarded.

Our last decent recruit to come from Kentucky in football actually came from Sweden:

Sebastian "Big Swead" Johansson plays OL and the 1st 2 years Doc thought he would never play. Big Swed is from Sweden and played at Raceland as an exchange student.

Big Swed Herdzone Bio

Of course we don't recruit the Tri-State (WV, KY, OH) that much. I wish we would recruit OH a little more but I understand why we don't. They all play slow B10 (3 yards and a cloud of dust) football and not many fit in the spread offense that much.

I am not comparing the two in the sense you are thinking. I am just saying that there is talent in KY HS football that can go unnoticed on a National level.

Take current Topper Taywan Taylor for example. He was rated as a low 2 star by 247sports, but is our second best WR (you could argue that he and Dangerfield are more like 1a, 1b).

http://247sports.com/Player/Taywan-Taylor-29012

If he was playing in Florida or another state that cares about HS football then I think he would have at least have been a 3 star.

Now all Ohio players are at UK...

Plus Brian "GOAT" Anderson was from Louisville right?

Except for the New Hampshire game, Anderson was serviceable and could have been better if he had an OL and good WRs. Only outside WRs Anderson had was Dobson and Snipes Booker.

And yes Anderson was from Male HS in Louisville. But we've had plenty of good players come from Kentucky.

And BOOM goes the dynamite.

Antonio Howard who decommitted from WVU shows up in Green and White today. Howard is a 3 star CB from Miami.

Antonio Picks The Herd

If Mark Cann would have had a decent QB Coach we would have never seen Anderson under center. Cann had the height, arm and elusiveness you want in a QB. He just didn't have anyone there to actually harness his talent.
