RE: The college football playoff is a all subterfuge
I think the CFP was better than the BCS, so an improvement. But like many, I don't think it goes far enough. 8 or 16 team playoff would be a great thing for college football, in my opinion, and I think we'll see it sooner, rather than later.

But there are dangers for us in this regard. Like most things on the table these days, an expansion will be used to garner cash and separation for the 5 well resourced conferences (P5, if you will.) There is already talk about a reduction in the regular season games to counteract the 15 game march, which would go to 16, or even 17, with expansion. That will hurt revenue for G5 teams, in particular, since P5 vs. G5 matchups are tilted in favor of home games for P5 teams. So P5 will get their wish with the elimination of G5 team from their home match up. G5 will hurt, not only by losing that "pay day" game for those that rely on that cash stream, but also from the loss of revenue from their own Home game reduction. Again, the G5 will suffer more than the P5 with a reduction in a season, even to 11 games.

Obviously an 8 or 16 team playoff would be a ratings bonanza with huge cash streams. Who do you think is going to benefit most from that cash? Again, drips and drabs will come our way while the P5 gets richer still.

Yes, G5 access to the playoffs would likely improve by 1. I doubt there is any way, two or more G5 schools are going to get into a 8 team playoff, with maybe 2 spots for a 16 team playoff.

I just don't see how an expansion benefits us. Just follow the money...it doesn't add up for us.

There is one fair way to do it:

1. Take the champion of each P5 (5 teams)
2. Take the highest ranked G5 Champion (1 team)
3. Take two highest ranked "at large" (2 teams)

There is your 8 team playoff. Everybody is happy and cant complain.

I'm posting in a thread started by football fans where "subterfuge" was used, in the title (!), more or less correctly.

I think the board deserves a gold star for today.

As for the topic, every time there are changes made, the G5 needs to collectively be pushing for a bigger spot at the table, no matter how incremental the gains are. Just be relentless about improving our power and leverage. We won't get any dessert unless we do.

TCU is not our brother. They are P5 who happened to be looked down on just a bit by the P5 elite.

I'd support that.

It has to be that for equal access and revenue sharing. The P5 would like want to make the G5 bid subject to certain potentially exclusionary criteria, but we should fight that. And if theywere successful, e.g. requiring 0 or no losses, I would game the system by soft scheduling.

Bottom line is G5 needs a seat at the 8 team table, and a cut of the money. And CUSA needs to work to ensure that spot doesnt become the Boise St autobid.

The whole system is designed to create and perpetuate an unequal distribution of resources to the favored schools at the expense of everyone else. What incentive do they have to earmark a spot for us peons?

With their complete control of the Committee they expand the playoff to eight and ensure that it's always stacked with Cartel schools.
