State of the basketball program
It sucks, folks.

Offense is pathetic. That last possession sums it up. Juice brown dribbling around for 25 seconds then throwing up a terrible shot. Not a single pass. Entire come back was fools gold. Brown chucking up shots without any passes. Great when they go in, but more times than not they don't.

Defense absolutely blows. How many times can you give up a backdoor screen for a layup? I lost count after 5. Great d there on the last two possessions as well.

Coaching sucks really hard. You've got a lot of guys out there that appear to have very high opinions of themselves and apparently the coaches agree with them. Coach K has watched the same crap defense we have. Does it ever change? No.

Tonight was night and day. Game shouldn't have been that close. You've got one team that hustles their butt off -- rebounds -- plays with effort, and moves the ball beautifully on offense.

On the other end you've got dribble dribble dribble shoot, and a lot of guys stranding around on defense. The few times they play good d, they fail to box out.

Hasn't changed the past couple of years, not gonna change now. This team will get about as far as the quarters in the MAC tournament -- if that.

Supposed talent doesn't mean crap if you don't hustle and work as a team. We've got a selfish unit of 5 individuals out there on the floor most of the time.

And I know, yeah, it's worlds better than a few years ago, but wasting supposed talent is killer.

the sky is falling

we're only a few games over 500. let's start a thread why we should hire gene crosHshshiisssssssss

clearly, western playing better team ball than us in terms of offensive execution. painful at times to watch rush or play selfish in key offensive moments. no way should we get beat backdoor like they did to us. yeah, you give up a few but we were gashed.

future of the program is the new class. probably coach k's best so far. we've got a bunch of pretty athletic role players coming back. jon jon and stuckey could grow into big time scorers. depends on how each develops. losing jd, juice and drummond will weaken the talent level, but it's all about how you mesh. witness this game. western has been good since the top scorer in their program and their top rising player (stain brook and paul) both transferred out. who knows.

bg next at home?

It's not just one game. It's CMU, oakland, detroit, no ky, tonight. Nothing ever changes. Defense is heart and hustle and want to. Clearly we don't want it.

You're right. Never mind I change my stance. Our boys don't want to win. You are correct. I'm sorry I never saw it

No. We didn't play well tonight. Couldn't stop the back door cut if the season depended on it. Out coached (what the hell was that last 'play' of the game where Juice dribbled around forever?). And yet we still only lost by 3.

Also, those refs were beyond horrible. They weren't the reason we lost, but they didn't help.

Refs were evenly bad. Shorty had no business being on the floor.

I don't really care right now. When 'fans' like him just complain all the time, it makes being a UT fan so much less enjoyable.

Hard to enjoy selfish and undisciplined basketball. The funny thing is, people couldn't stand Joplins teams and how they played street ball. Tonight was nothing but one on one play, yet they get a pass?

RE: State of the basketball program
I am thankful to Coach K for bringing our program off life support. Not sure if he's tapped out at this level or not. I'm thinking it may be another 2-3 seasons before we're primed to make another run at a MAC title. Some say next years class is his best one at UT. I know it's going to be a pretty young team next season unless some scholarships get freed up and we can get a JUCO or two, as well. That might make a significant difference.

Hall and mosely get minutes in the first half then they disappear to the bench in the second half.

Actually, more often than not they did. Brown shot over 50%, I think. If Brown gives it up he may not get it back. Who else takes the shot? Drummond is out, Williams was a non-entity. Lauf? Maybe but I'll take a bad shot from Juice over an open look for Lauf. Defense? Yeah, I'll be seeing backf oor cuts and cut ls off high screens in my sleep. Pathetic. We stuffed Brown but WMU is so well coached it hardly mattered.

RE: State of the basketball program
I still find it hard to believe that the major difference between this year's team and last year's team is only the absence of Rian Pearson (and to a less extent, Matt Smith)---there seems to be something else missing as well but I don't know what it is. I wonder if last year they were still playing with a chip on their shoulder with something to prove-----at least in the pre-conference and early conference season (when, perhaps significantly, they were playing their best ball of the season) whereas this year they may subconsciously think they have already arrived and are continuing where the left off last season (at the close of the season, not the beginning)----Somehow they just don't seem not quite as hungry as a team (for lack of a better description) as they did in the 2013 part of their season last year.

Anyway, how they play in March is what is really important; HOWEVER, the way the tournament is set up, to have a real shot at winning out in March you need to be ranked a four seed or higher. So far the Rockets have lost 2 more home conference games this year than they lost for the entire season last year and that is 2 losses out of only 3 conference games played at home, so I would expect anyone not totally drunk on Blue and Gold Kool Aid would be a bit concerned.

It is simply not going be good enough to just bring the A game 50% of the time (every other game) if they realistically want to compete for a championship this year yet it seems as if that is what they are doing.

Frankly at this stage I would give the women about as much chance to win the tournament this year as the men-----and that is a outside chance at best----yet the it is the men who have the veterans and the experience---so who knows.

So the backup plan is to dribble around for 23 seconds without a single pass, being double teamed the majority of the time? Brilliant.

Outplayed and out coached.
