Apple TV deal on Groupon
Good deal on an Apple TV on Groupon. For WatchESPN, it doesn't get any better than one of these (or a Roku 3) connected to your Flatscreen via Ethernet!

Question for those that have used chromcast or roku, can you stream things from some of the websites (like we use to have to do for A lot of NIU games) from an iPad to your TV? There are some other websites out there too I was looking to stream from.

Chromecast user here, yes you can mirror anything on your laptop up to your TV through the Chromecast. I like the chromecast, it's cheap ($30?) and works ok for what I use it for (ESPN, Netflix, Youtube). I also use it from my phone to stream ESPN, Netflix, Youtube and it works well. I have ATT for internet, which isn't the fastest but it works fine for me. Getting back to mirroring your laptop to tv throgh the Chromecast, it works but at least for me it's fairly slow. I assume mostly in part because of my internet speed.

My roomate had Apple TV and I like that too. This was a few years ago so I can't comment on if there is a newer updated Apple TV.

Have you streamed movies from sites through it as well?

Same all around for me. Chromecast works great through my laptop or phone. You have to use the Chrome browser to cast/mirror to the TV and it's just as good as YouTube, WatchESPN etc.

Not really from any sites other than the Netflix app. Well, I have tried to use if to stream something from that website "project free tv" and it was somewhat choppy. Then again it might be my mediocre internet speed, so I can't really say that it's from the Chromecast or my internet (AT&T ~20mbps service).

Sometimes it takes a bit for the chromecast to buffer, but it's usually pretty good looking. Not perfect, but pretty good.

For the UNLV game, I used AirPlay to stream the game (from the MWC website) from my iMac via Ethernet to my AppleTV. Worked very well.

Using that method, I can stream anything from my computer in my office to the TV in my living room. I also use Plex Media Server to stream downloaded movies and TV shows from the computer to a Roku 3.

Sounds like you're a nerdier old guy than even me. Or perhaps, you have time on your hands. There are a couple of good Amazon products too.

03-lmfao Correct about time on my hands!

Stringing 100 feet of Cat 5 through the attic and fishing it through walls in the middle of the summer was no fun, that's for sure. It was worth it though!

Yes, I streamed the UNLV game this year & @Idaho game last year using IPad & Apple TV.... Great device, especially if you have HBO or the other movie channels. Netflix great on here too. I used to us it through my BluRay player, but this little box does it all; Hulu plus as well. Well worth the purchase (even though I got mine as a gift)! Connect wirelessly via WiFi & ur all set. Hope this helps 04-cheers

Roku has an espn channel. So if you have an internet service provider with rights to distribute espn content, as most do, you can just watch the games without needing to use the ipad.

Every system works a bit differently. If you use chrome you would use the ipad to send the signal to to the tv. Chrome also lets you send other web content to your tv.

I like roku a bunch. Someday if I can talk my spouse into it, I will drop cable, get an antenna and supplement with online content from netflix and amazon prime. That would allow me to save a bundle and still get a ton of content.

I got rid of cable and just use an antenna. I have an indoor leaf antenna w/amplifier which works pretty well from Aurora- except I can't get CBS(which I have heard is a problem even with some/many outdoor antenna's too).
