If you could expand the LU academic catalogue what areas would you grow the university? I know there is a fine balance between quantity of offerings versus quality of offerings. But what academic pursuits would you like to see Liberty add?

I would like to see them add an agricultural department. I think it would reflect well with the mission of the university... stewardship of the earth and caring for others included.

An agricultural department would include some really cool degree programs... Animal Science, Community Development, Entomology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Aquaculture, Horticulture, Recreation, Park & Tourism Sciences, Renewable Natural Resources, Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences, Small Acreage Farming, etc.

I would also like to see them add a culinary school.

LU needs WAY more STEM degrees. And LU also needs to start doing STEM research. If we want to move up the rankings from 80th we need both of those things.

I totally agree with that.

It would also be nice to meet the highest "Research University" criteria: defined Research I universities are those that:
- Offer a full range of baccalaureate programs
- Committed to graduate education through the doctorate
- Give high priority to research
- Award 50 or more doctoral degrees each year
- *Receive annually $40 million or more in federal support[1]

*However I would stay away from the federal money as a private institution. Find a way to get that money through private means.

Took my daughter on her first college visit today... Union University in Jackson, TN. It was a very nice visit and appears to be a very good school. My wife was talking to one of the school administrators about our visit and my daughters plans. He asked what other schools she was considering. We said Taylor U. (in Indiana) and Liberty. He acknowledged that Taylor U. was a school on par academically, spiritually and prestigiously with Union. Apparently he shook his head at Liberty and suggested, not so much. Now I don't know how much stock to put in his comments, but it would have been nice to be recognized as a quality school none-the-less.

Some schools have different focuses. LU's is to be big time and they play at the D1 level to further that goal. Other smaller schools are purely academic in nature and have zero sports goals. LU is focusing more on sports than the academic but over time both will be met. I always tell people I enjoy being able to watch my school on ESPN. That's also a great way to market a school. The other schools you mentioned sound like great schools but I have never heard of them prior to this convo and its doubtful I will remember they exist after. Nor would they be a plus or minus on a resume if I saw it as a hiring manager. To me that's says something....GO LU!!

Plus, many people know liberty from 10-20 years ago. That old reputation is tough to change. I went to dinner with the retired youth leader at my church. When I brought up liberty he laughed and said he never took kids to visit liberty. He was totally clueless about the changes and couldn't believe the transformation that's occurred in the past few years.

I know we recently added the medical school. Does anyone know if there are any other courses of study the university is adding?

I know we added these grad programs like 6 months ago. I'm sure there are more I just know about these.

Biomedical Sciences (M.S.) - Residential & Online
Information Systems (M.S.I.S.) - Online
Information Assurance - Online
Technology Management - Online
Executive Leadership (M.A.) - Online (Formerly Management and Leadership)
Cyber Security (M.S.) - Online

Is it difficult to translate online courses to residence courses? I like that they are offered, but it seems like if there is a major offered it would be on campus as well.

I'm sure the online one's can be done on campus. At a game during Sr Day they announced each Sr's major and one was a Master's in Management and Leadership (MAML). The MAML is only offered online. So I figure students do on campus courses and online at the same time to major in degrees only offered online.
