Jordan Lynch revives pro career as QB with Edmonton of CFL
Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but Lynch signed a 3 year deal, reportably to be a QB again.

For those of you not close to Chicago, it appears that the Bears "brass" used the Lynch signing (as a RB) as a publicity stunt....some articles written since state that Marc Trestman never really had a plan for using Lynch, and in wooing him to the Bears as a free agent deprived him of some other options. I always thought that with the bigger field and wide open game, Lynch's combination of passing and running made him a better candidate for being a CFL QB vs. making it in the NFL.

Here is one artice on his contract signing with Edmonton:

Really? A publicity stunt? I didn't see any coverage of his signing with Chicago.

There were some local articles written in the suburban papers (well after Lynch was cut from the Bears) that insinuated that Lynch was mis-lead about Chicago seriously giving him a shot...he played sparingly in exhibition games, and some "dirt" was uncovered by these local guys that they never expected him to stick. I know your next question is: "Linkee?". I 'll see if I can find one of the articles....again, if he was to be converted to a RB, why didn't Chicago put him on the practice squad to learn his position? Even later there were numerous comings and goings on the practice squad, and Lynch never got a nibble from the Bears. Perhaps some of our NIU brethran here know more about the story...I'm certainly no insider.

There was tons of it, and the media was always interviewing him at training camp.

There was some in Chicago. Which was their target. They weren't targeting people in Toledo or Ohio.

I like Barry Rozner, but I don't agree with his conclusions on Lynch.

Here's a couple comments to the article that I think sum up why Lynch didn't make it with the Bears. Also, 31 other NFL teams have passed on giving Jordan a look. I do think Lynch has a possible NFL future as a RB and/or special teams player, but even that's a long shot. He has no NFL future as a QB.

Quote:the bears decided he wasn't good enough to make the team, and the 31 other teams in the league agreed. He's a free agent, so if he's a player "most teams would like to have", they'd have him, since there's nothing stopping them from signing him except the league-wide consensus that he doesn't have the talent to contribute in the NFL. As a bear fan and someone who went to NIU with lynch, I'd love to see him as a bear, but there's a reason he's not signed, and it's because the things that made him successful in the MAC simply do not work in the NFL.

Quote:Totally unfair assessment. I like Jordan Lynch, he was a great college athlete and a great feel good story but he's just not an NFL caliber player. The NCAA has always been full of great players that just don't translate into NFL stars, remember Gordie Lockbaum?!? The bottom line is, if he truly had NFL talent and speed somebody would have picked him up for their practice squad.

I always figured that Lynch would end up in the CFL....better fit for his balance of skills.

Me neither, just that breaking story about him signing with the Jordan brand.

In the preseason there was more publicity for lynch then any of the Bears actual draft picks and that isn't an exaggeration. It was a local story though.
