Not a big fan of that design by fans survey/committee approach. That is how we got the current convo floor design. My fear is they try to take to many design elements and it looks like a shotgun approach to design

agree....that should be very high on the priority list. Those guys and gals bring it every home game and put on a heck of a show.

I'll be disappointed if the new convo isn't built around the pep band. Seriously, get an acoustics expert to design something that makes the visiting team's ears bleed.

But seriously seriously, any new convo design that doesn't dramatically improve the experience for students (and the pep band) would be a major failure.

Athletics Strategic Plan
They should definitely take a hard look at the Grand Canyon University Arena. Built in 2011 for $40 M with 5k capacity. Was upgraded this year to 7k but not sure of cost of expansion. This is an amazing facility that puts every set close to the floor.

If I were the admin and I was preparing a strategic plan, I'd be eyeing that bill we're all talking about in the other thread. It has the potential to moot any assumptions that could be made in such a document. Faced with that, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the plan is non-specific.

Idea...take fan input form a survey on designing the convo. I think they did that for BFS. You can really make a great arena if you are not just following cookie cutter designs. Take elements of the best arenas and incorporate them all into the new convo.

I would prefer the leadership lead and not spend so much time and effort surveying every person who has ever been to a hoops game. It's not that hard. Just do it!

Hire someone to do this for you. Tell them you don't want them to create a cookie cutter design and that you would prefer they take elements of the best arenas and incorporate them into the new convo.

Keeps coming back to the "DO SOMETHING" mantra.

We lack people who get things done, apparently.

This strategic plan has been in some stage of development since early spring of 2012, and in ACTIVE development since 2013.

Amazing that after all that time, it still hasn't been communicated, and it likely will say nothing. NO ACCOUNTABILITY.

Yeah something like, well we were actively monitoring the situation and taking proactive feedback from all of the JMU stakeholders but prior to completing this process and taking action the General Assembly of VA has thrown us a curve ball. So in response to this unanticipated development the JMU Administration will have to go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate all alternatives with regard to the Athletic Department's vision and strategic plan.

We will engage all stakeholders and have an updated Stategic Vision in the 4th quarter of 2015.

Someone had mentioned that they were modeling ours after Auburn's fairly new arena. I sure do hope they implement some tiered seating so as to get lots of fans very close to the court.

Potus#4 - hence the catch-22. The royal "they" are not posting "it" anywhere. We have not been communicated to transparently, that is what I repeat over and over...

This board is confident that we are about to go around the circle again even faster..."they" have little choice but to say "something" so we are expecting regurgitation of what they have already said, "nothing."

We are about to get a preannounced & heralded "athletic vision"...if the vision is regurgitated nothing, we may go around the circle so fast this time that JMU creates a internet wormhole.

Amended that for you. Sort of a chicken or the egg type thing but you're obviously already going around the circle based on the assumption of what a yet to be released vision is, or is not, going to state.

At least you're passionate about your commitment that the JMU Admin lack passion and support for all things JMU Athletics.

The lower level shown of Auburn is not steep enough. All seats need to be as perpendicular to the floor as code will allow. Go up with the building rather than take up land.

Admin passion and emotional support are great...if followed by results, for example, the branding going on at GMU (?), VCU (energetic sell outs) & ODU (energetic sell outs).

We have had the same admin passion and support over past three years in which time the fcs has gotten weaker, the CAA has gotten weaker, the JMU athletic nation has divided, basketball remains sub 300RPI, football has underperformed...7% has not change during the 14 Rose years, 7% has not changed in the 2 Alger years...some of us think is all is well...Some think we are William & Mart and/or Richmond, we are good, but we are neither.

I believe 12% is achievable if the school had any strong bold visions, athletic or academic. Has our regional university ranking slipped lately? We should "care" harder...

Agreed. I'm sure they did that so they could make the whole thing a bit bigger than JMU would need.

This is the one I like, Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. Maybe a bit larger than we would require, but it has a few suites and some nice site-lines.

Another thing nice about the Chaifetz is that the upper most section can be closed off by draping curtains down and pack everyone into the lowest tier when 5K or less is expected. The Charlotte Coliseum where the Hornets used to play, used curtains in this manner and it was incredible how you didn't even realize there were empty seats behind it. They would do it for the WNBA or when Davidson would play UNCC in there. It made the place look packed.

This is exactly what I expect. Realistically, how could they announce a strategic plan with any detail at this point? I'm far from an admin apologist but even if it told us everything we wanted to hear it might be irrelevant.
