If my school is cheating, they'd deserve whatever they get. If yours has been, it will too. I don't give a damn what conference it is.

I specifically stated I do not relish SMU dealing with an NCAA probe. However, if SMU is not running a program on the up and up, you damn well bet they deserve to be punished. It's not good for the conference anytime a program receives sanctions, but I also don't like it when a program exploits the very same system other schools in our conference have elected to abide by.
The whole basis for my rant(s) was how nonchalant many SMU fans are over the situation, believing "it is much to about nothing". I simpy think that logic or attitude is absurb. When the NCAA has looked into the program, an Asst Coach is put on "leave", a player is rule "ineligible", another player recently returned from "ineligibilty", and the #1 HS recruits last season could not gain NCAA clearinghouse. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to recognize a developing trend with SMU basketball

Intelligent post.
NOTE: You can substitute almost any other team in SMU's place in regards to some (not all) fans saying "it is much to do about nothing", whenever NCAA comes snooping around.
Now, in today's 2015 World of the NCAA, the power of the NCAA has certainly be neutered vs what they had just a few years ago so penalties for same violations will probably be less, MUCH LESS, than those 5-10 years ago...but its still never a good thing to have them on your campus.
Regardless what the NCAA is or will do to SMU, when a 13 scholarship program has academic issues with 3-4 star recruits...that's a huge percentage of your program and that's never a good thing.

What makes this especially interesting and worthy of comment, despite what some may think, is SMU's sorted history with violations and the fact that Larry Brown has left a trail of NCAA investigations and sanctions along the way during his career that could make John Caliperi blush.

Seems that the Dallas local media was dead on with their initial investigative reports.

The Dallas Morning News put more folks on probation back int eh SWC days than the local judge.

Update: NCAA sends Notice of Allegations to SMU

Actually, they were exactly wrong.
They reported on a grade change at Kimball High School and said that SMU must have asked for that grade to change. SMU did not ask for the changed grade. SMU assumed that KF would be ineligible without an online course, enrolled him in one, and then and administrative assistant took it. Had SMU asked for the grade change, that course would have not been needed.
(turns out it wasn't needed anyway, as the player would have been eligible without the online course as well)
