LOL, I would go with the latter based on this gem from another story on he blog:
Quote:The College Football world has quickly and not so quietly divided the the G5 into two distinct categories, the B2 and the G3. The MWC and AAC are now the B2(Bridge leagues, bridge to the P5) and the Sun Belt, Conference USA and MAC are G3 (Gang of 3, )
Hahahaha. Too funny.
I dont remember that blog being so hostile towards CUSA. Maybe someone else took it over.

Cause they can't believe that after all the posturing and strutting their stuff; they don't have a conference that is even marginally better than CUSA, except for the dang TV Money! And ESPN Exposure.

Rated under C-USA in football this year. Nice.

He didn't leave it out. The point is how y'all were actually dumb enough to think they were actually going to stay. It took a special knd of delusion to buy into the idea of Georgetown and Notre Dame ever being in the same conference as Houston and Tulane.

RE: New TV deal predicitons
Back to the topic of the thread, I don't foresee a whole lot changing either way in terms of money. In terms of our product, Memphis basketball is the only name brand we've lost since the last contract. Honestly, when it comes to drawing the eyes of a casual fan, there's not a spit's worth of difference between East Carolina and Louisiana Tech football.
To the extent TV markets matter, we've got that well-covered. Lost New Orleans, Orlando, Memphis, Tulsa. Added Charlotte, Miami, Norfolk, Nashville, San Antonio. Merely swapped SMU for UNT in Dallas-Ft. Worth. The fate of UAB may factor in, but not in a game-changing way. Our geographical presence is better, if anything.
I don't really have a preference of networks, but I would like to see more consistent coverage from our Tier 1 & Tier 2 deals. I'm hoping the positivity from the NBC written outlets during bowl season is a sign they're going to throw their proverbial hat into the ring. ESPN can continue to have intercourse with itself if they want us to play football on Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday.

Personally, I think the package overall gets a slight bump but the average payout per school stays about the same.

Agree completely on Tuesday/Wednesday, but some of the Fridays, especially in November, can make sense.

I think so. Might be more UH favored but I think Rice still has a pretty good following too.

RE: New TV deal predicitons
Honestly, I think it is more likely that we drop than it is we see an increase. I think staying where we are is the most likely though.
Didn't the MAC just get like $800,000 per team? I can't imagine us getting less than the MAC. The quality of competition is pretty similar and CUSA has a larger footprint.
I imagine we'll get locked into a long term, terrible contract though that keeps us at this level for 10+ years.

At our level, ratings and who watches doesn't matter. Afterall, Houston is a UT-TAM town over anyone else. What the net works want is cable boxes. How many are there. The get a fee from the cable company per subscriber regardless of whether they watch or not. Hence, the scramble to add teams in major metro areas.

RE: New TV deal predicitons
The only thing that can help our tv contract from here on out is for our conference to continue to improve. We need to stay together and become the best G5. We also need to expand in basketball and bring in a handful of quality programs, like Wichita State, Xavier, VCU, and UAB.
