But I have to support reform regardless of what it is. The current system is not working.
I know where you're coming from, but I think it's about getting buy-in from the political powers that be. If they believe it enhances their standing, they are more likely to support.
...and face it, those entities are stakeholders, and we have suffered and complained because stakeholders have not been involved or consulted. Well, now they will be. Anything is better than the status quo.
But the people actually voting on this legislation don't care if the county commissioners or mayors get a say. I would say they would want the opposite if we were trying to appeal to them.

They care that the speaker and the senate protem will have one nomination each. This is putting more power in the house and senate, which they like. I agree with several of your points on the bill. I think the opposition will attack adding a jeffco commissioner (or manager) using the bankruptcy.

RE: Volunteers Needed for the Restore UAB Football Team
I don't have a problem with the Mayors and Commissioners having a Vote. Having politicians involve will make it a wide open process because the politicians are accountable to the people. The politicians from Birmingham are going vote in UAB best interest. And right now the mayor of Touscaloosa is a former UAB football player and a member of the board of the UAB Football foundation.
That said, it doesn't make much difference how the bills read going in because changes will be made. The legislative process involves changes and compromises which are required to make a bill palatable to enough legislators to allow passage. Sometimes changes and lobbying are needed just to get a bill out of committee and on the floor for a vote.
This is why we need every Blazer fan in the state of Alabama on our team. As changes are made to the three bills Jack will initially present, we may need folks to again contact their legislators. If a bill is held up in committee, we may need only the folks who live in the legislators on the committee to pressure them.
Saying that you have talked to your legislators is NOT enough. If you live in the state of Alabama we need you on the team so we can coordinate our efforts. Right now we are especially in need of folks who do not live in the Birmingham area.

And when the legislature complains about that portion (commissioners and mayors), we will concede if we can get them to concede somewhere as well. In the end, the bill will be molded into something new.

RE: Volunteers Needed for the Restore UAB Football Team
There is an event set up on FB called "#FreeUAB Montgomery Lobby" that you need to sign up for. There are already 172 going plus 72 maybes. This does not include a ton of students that Tim Alexander's organization will gather. These numbers are going to keep rising as the word gets out. We will flood Montgomery in green! This is what vacation days were invented for!
Below is copied from a post on the FB freeuabfootball page:
"Power in numbers! If you only wish to show up, and do not wish to be a lobbyist that is fine. We need people in the gallery! In the halls. On the steps! This is one of the most defining, important actions in UAB history, certainly in modern times."
