Will Temple be the new Boise State?
After former Temple coach Al Golden had the program winning again after decades of losing, he proposed that Temple could become the Boise of the east. In several magazine interviews he described a scenario where Temple would build a cozy 30k campus stadium. This stadium would finally give Temple some type of homefield advantage. Temple would bring teams in and beat the slop out of them much like Boise was doing back then. He also pointed out that a stadium was not beyond Temple's reach if a school such as Akron could build one.

He felt that a winning Temple program would be something that the entire east coast media would fall in love with.

Golden moved on a big money program in Miami. I don't see the Boise example being used since he departed. Pitt certainly is not an example with their 20k empty seats and terrible football atmosphere. Penn State is more of a midwest Big Ten style school.

I think that Louisville looks like a really good model for Temple.

I will say that something has got to change. This season will be very exciting with Penn State and Notre Dame coming to town. But it's the future that concerns me.

except that Temple was a "have" from 91 to 04 in the power league big east and Louisville was a "have not" in CUSA. If Temple couldn't keep up with Louisville during that period when Temple had a big built in advantage, how can you keep up with them now that the roles have been reversed? Louisville is not a realistic model for you guys to follow. Cincinnati would be a good school to try to keep up with, though even that is going to be very tough.

Temple never even won the MAC. They were the doormat when they were in the Big East and were kicked out. I don't see Temple being on the radar screen for top recruits when they are surrounded now by Penn State, Maryland and Rutgers of the Big Ten.

One... I can't see Temple pulling off an OCS. Sorry, I just really don't see it happening.

Two... I'm tired of this "Boise of the East..." and (in the immortal and insane words of RutgersAl who started the whole thing) "The USC of the East." Temple is NOT Boise State, Boise State is NOT Temple. The conditions are completely dissimilar. And Boise State is screwed right now too...so being "Boise State" doesn't seem to work well anyway.

To be the next Boise you have to put in turf that matches your uniform colors. The other teams find it nauseating, thus the huge home field advantage.

Louisville should be everyone's blueprint. The success not the moral degeneration.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Temple. The certainly have been able to sustain respectability after Golden with good hires in Addazio and Ruehle.

What has got my attention about Temple is their recent recruiting. Depending on where you look 2nd or 3rd in the conference. I believe they have some get transfers coming in too from other P5 programs that don't show up in the rankings.
