So where do we stand?
Watts still in office. UAB no football, rifle, and bowling.
What's next?

This does seem like a hollow victory, honestly. Watts isn't going anywhere.

Nothing hollow about it. A no-con is a really big deal.

Correct. This is the foundation we needed to really expand into an assault on the Trustees and by extension the corruption underlying all of Alabama politics.

Ray Watts was not going to suddenly implode into a mass of quivering offal the moment Chad Epps read out the results. And really, we'll be able to make good use of him as a punching bag for a while.

RE: So where do we stand?
My take is that we win either way. If the BoT moves quickly to dump Watts we're rid of him, and its possible that he gets angry enough about it to say something stupid. If they don't, the longer they support him the more obvious it becomes that he was their tool all along, with the bonus that if he is still President when SACS gets here they will want to know why.

I'm good with watching him twist in the wind for a while.

The wild card is who gets put in as interim once they do pull the plug. Again, could be someone we like, or they could up the ante by afflicting us with another BoT tool... which will be noticed and pointed out.

Their arrogance is playing right into our hands.

Watts was never the target he was only the executioner. We now set our sights on the source of the evil.

Very true. Watts was merely the weapon used to commit this brutal crime. The BoT was the perpetrator who wielded it against its UAB victim. Now, their collective fingerprints are all over the weapon at the crime scene.

Hopefully, some quick sleuthing will be able to collect all of the evidence connecting the assailant to the crime committed, and prosecute and convict this crime. If we're given a bumbling Inspector Clouseau to investigate the crime, then we'll know that there's a cover-up coming from beyond the BoT.

Remember, ... "Guns (Watts) don't kill people (UAB). People (the BoT) kill people (UAB)."

Spring football question... Since 2014-2015 is the last year for football, could Clark and any remaining assistants put the remaining players through spring practice? I would love to see Clark and team preparing for the future in another act of defiance.

That would be pretty funny, but it won't happen. Clark has too much class to do something like that.

Liability issues would probably make that impossible. What happens to someone injured during these unapproved sessions on that knee-eating field?

RE: So where do we stand?
Spoke with a faculty person who is close to the folks on the EC. They met with Jack yesterday. The general consensus is that the BOT has dug in their heels and enjoying the chaos they've created. They're going to ride Watts until the bitter end, whatever end they get. They're banking on our fatigue and lack of organization.

From this point on its a legislative and accreditation fight. Jack said the legislators from south Alabama have been covered up in phone calls and letters about this issue and are more than willing to help. It's important we continue to engage legislators because there's never been a more opportune time to get movement on this issue. And yes movement could include negotiating for a completely separate UAB/UAH as a stand alone entity.

I plan on emailing my Representatives today. Hopefully I can convince them the folly of having the biggest employer in their area being governed by a Board that does not have it's best interests in mind.

I have been researching the Auburn incident to see the parallels and what they did. The situation looks very similar except our Trustees don't care for our Athletics department like the Auburn Trustees did.

Fortunately, both situations involve board overreach. The motivations were different but the methods were the same.

A tremendous amount of lobbying took place in the Auburn situation – from what I've read. Direct Communications (PR firm also hired by Watts) was all about persuading legislators and others. At the time a state audit was being called for, Direct had been paid more than $750,000. I believe by the 2nd year of their work, they had billed over a Mil. That's a lot of scoots for some "PR".

To me, it says a TON about Watts selecting this company to work for him.

RE: So where do we stand?
http://www.wsfa.com/story/1557500/auburn...-probation

"In April 2001, SACS was asked to investigate the Auburn Board of Trustees. An ad hoc faculty committee asked SACS for "an external, objective, and independent assessment of Auburn University--with special attention to the performance of the Board of Trustees..and shared governance."

Three accusations in particular gained momentum; among the allegations:
•Trustee Bobby Lowder had so much money and clout he could effectively control Auburn's board.
(How many trustees have connections to Bryant Bank?)
•Trustees Lowder and Lowell Barron had conflicts of interest because they did big business with the university.
•Illegal meetings were held during which big decisions were supposedly made."
(On campus stadium proposal and the closure of three UAB sports)

Neither Watts nor the Bot give an ish about how much money it would take to cover up stuff.
