Chance to Fight the Champ
Well, we will get our chance to fight the Champ with the Ohio State University this year. We should revel at the opportunity. Sure, it will be the toughest game we have probably ever played but at least we will know where we stand. 04-chairshot

The reassuring thing is that approximately 123 schools would get pummeled in the same way if they played osu next year

RE: Chance to Fight the Champ
If I may quote one of the best signs I ever saw while attending the U of I vs Ohio State game in 2003 (The sign was draped over an enormous fraternity house, and must have taken quite a bit of effort to create). But the giant sign simply said:

F*** BLOWHIO

Don't be intimidated, just got out there and play as hard as you effing can. (Also maybe our guys should stop attending classes, it works pretty well for the P5 schools, They didn't come to play SCHOOL).

Late in the season, when people start asking why the Huskies are not ranked (or why they are ranked), the Ohio State game will be the answer.

This doesn't any sense to me. Of course NIU is going to be ranked if they win in Columbus, but losing to them really doesn't mean anything. MAC teams generally get ranked by looking good on paper...they get to 8-1, 9-1, etc. while the teams ahead of them slowly accumulate losses. If you get to 10 wins you have a chance to get ranked by default. Nobody is spending enough time on these polls that they look at much beyond teams W/L records.

Even though they'll probably get smashed, enjoy the fact that NIU gets a shot against the defending national champs next year.

Does anyone know the financial aspects of the game? How much is NIU being paid to play at OSU?

Oh yes. A ton of OSU fans follow me on Twitter because I'm a Reds fan so I plan on being as obnoxious as possible.

Jones is staying. Should have gone pro kid.

Oh well at least it's not going to suck being big man on campus while sitting on the bench. Kudos to him.

This is going on the Huskies' locker room bulletin board. I now have confidence that we will win. 03-wink

I couldn't disagree more with this insinuation of what a loss will do. Boise lost to Ole Miss by 22 points and that was looked at as a huge positive because they played a top team. Losing within a reasonable amount will do far better for us than beating Northwestern or someone similar.

So you actually agree. I did not say that any loss dooms the Huskies. If the Huskies lose a close one to OSU, but and cover the spread by 10 or more points , they will be compared to all the other teams on OSU's schedule that also came up just as short.

Using your example, Boise St's 22 point loss to Ole Miss did not look so bad later in mid-season, when Ole Miss was ranked #1.

A close loss to OSU will doom the Huskies chances of going to the FBS playoffs.
