"A close loss to OSU will doom the Huskies chances of going to the FBS playoffs."
It really just depends on how that loss compares to the season's of the other top G5 schools competing for that one spot. It's all relative. Probably only hurt if someone goes undefeated because that "0" in the loss column means so much. But undefeated seasons are rare. Also, early season losses seem to have far less impact than late one's in the voters minds.
Playing OSU will be like when Mr. Burns had the MLB Allstars on his team. Lose one All-American/Heisman/Lombardi/Outlan/Butkus trophy candidate, no issue. Lose 5, could happen, not like but still 29 to take their places.

Sometimes, coaches call plays based on the strengths of their own team. Other times, they will try to take advantage of their opponents' weaknesses. Carey might as well just be the first kind of coach in this game.

We play OSU as well next season so if you take Chipdip out for dinner he'll just talk about how WMU played a better game against OSU even if we lose and that NIU just got lucky.

Thanks to opening this thread late last night and texting a fan who is an OSU fan, I had a crazy dream about a game that pitted NIU vs. OSU vs. Michigan. It was a played @ OSU and from I recall, your offense was on the field and the other 2 teams made up the defense. NIU was up late, UM threw a pass off our DB hands into the hands of the OSU DB for an int who starting running, but was knocked out by the NIU DB. Needing a td, OSU moved the ball down the field in 2 plays, but was stopped short. NIU prevailed!
I think seeing highlights of the Sea comeback and a few minutes of wrestling last night may have played a part. No, drugs were not involved.

Well, you guys play them first. Make some injuries occur on their end -- we'll review the tape, make adjustments, and come out the winner. And we'll high-five Diesel for thanks.
