RE: Kentucky chickening out
We were supposed to play Kentucky next year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the title game, but Kentucky is backing out per Coach Floyd.

RE: Kentucky chickening out
I think it was supposed to be at the University of Maryland. I don't know if it would have been their current arena or in Cole Field House (where the title game was played). From our Rivals board, CTF said on his radio show that he didn't want to disclose why, but that the reason would make headlines if it were disclosed. The guess is that Kentucky was worried about the media smearing the impeccable reputation of Adolph Rupp.

BBN has worked very very hard to try to protect the truth about that mans bigotry. Might as well leak it. UK will never play you home and away... Won't lose anything for it and you will piss of the hoard. Wins all around for me.

Nothing new here, UK has to play 12 home games Nov. and Dec. with a couple of neutral games against "another name team".....

This was a game that UTEP had been working on since before the 13-14 season. It was a game that CBS wanted as well, and was helping to by putting up the money for the game. The game was supposed to take place on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend next year and the thought was that it would be great to show how far race relations have changed but I guess that would mean people would see the discrimination of the past and UK didn't want that.

Yeah, it's a shame but anyone who has to deal with uk idiots on a regular basis can't be surprised. As ToT said, UK and it's fans will do anything to protect Rupp. When the movie came out a couple years ago a Lexington news station ran a "documentary" that basically said he couldn't dare recruit blacks to UK because they had to play teams in the deep south. Which is basically just saying he was a chicken sh-t.

WKU on the other hand during that time:
Another memorable event for African-Americans in college basketball came three years later in the 1966 NCAA championship game, in which Texas Western College (now University of Texas at El Paso) coach Don Haskins started five African-American players. The Miners beat favorite Kentucky 72-65 to win the 1966 NCAA title. The team's victory inspired the 2006 movie Glory Road. Clem Haskins and Dwight Smith became the first black athletes to integrate the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers basketball program in the Fall of 1963.[4] This put Western Kentucky at the forefront to integrate college basketball in the Southeast.[5] The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were 2 points away from defeating Michigan and meeting the University of Kentucky Wildcats in the Mideast regional final of the 1966 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. A controversial foul called against Greg Smith during a jump ball put Cazzie Russell on the free throw line for Michigan, where he scored the tying and winning baskets

Would be nice if CBS stuck with UTEP and the Miners went all "Texas Western" for that game, have it against a quality opponent.

Refused to renew games with WKU while Courtney Lee was here, yet as soon as he graduated UL magically had the time of day. After the little scare in Diddle I doubt WKU sees Chicken **** Rick for a while.
