University of Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville will lead the American Football Coaches Association in 2015 as president of the organization, AFCA announced Tuesday.

Tuberville, who moves up from first vice-president of the Association, succeeds outgoing president Mike Welch of Ithaca College. Tuberville was elected president by members attending the Association's 2015 convention this week in Louisville, Kentucky.

"I'm very proud to be serving as the AFCA president and representing coaches at all levels of the game," Tuberville said in a statement. "Interest in football has never been higher and it's exciting to be part of the group that is providing leadership for our great game. We have faced many challenges in the last few years and there will be more to come, but our association has never been stronger. I've been a board member and active in the AFCA for a long time and to have the chance to lead the organization for the next year is a great honor and something I'm looking forward to."

In addition to Tuberville, 2015 AFCA officers include first vice-president Todd Berry of the University of Louisiana-Monroe, second vice-president Lee Owens of Ashland University and third vice-president Rich Rodriguez of the University of Arizona.

Tuberville completed his second season as the head coach at Cincinnati. He guided the Bearcats to a 9-4 overall record, a share of the American Athletic Conference title and an appearance in the Military Bowl in 2014. Tuberville has a record of 18-8 at Cincinnati and an overall record of 149-84 in his 19 years as a head coach at Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Auburn and Mississippi.

Does this have any benefit for UC? Or is this something that's gonna occupy TT's time that should be spent coaching, recruiting, and game planning. I want my coach spending every waking minute figuring out how to win and not dealing with this.

Ithica College, Louisiana-Monroe, Ashland University.... It is telling to me that the outgoing president and the vice-presidents (save for Rich Rod) are all guys at nothing programs. Have to wonder if the coaches at most FBS schools don't even bother to run for these positions as they don't have time for it.

I equate this along the lines of being a president of a bar association or other professional organization structured to improve and steward. You have to be capable and we'll respected to get the seat but this is a way to give back more than to get anything out of it. Not sure what the time commitment is but my guess is there is not a long line of hard chargers lined up to take the gavel.

I think this is like Dr Ono being named Most Notable President for 2015. It is a feather that shows that UC holds another Top Position in
the college ranks.. Kinda like when the AD at Xavier was on the selection committee.. These appointments help with contacts,
scheduling, coaching hires, etc.. Every time a UC person assumes a leadership role, it is a good thing..

I don't know how big it is, but I agree the postives should easily outweigh any possible negatives. I am continually amazed at how many of our "fans" seem eager to find a negative spin to nearly everything we do.

When he was hired here, I thought I saw somewhere where he was supposed to be the president of this organization that year but decided to postpone his term because of his move to UC. I think this has been in the works for a while.

Yep coaches should have zero personal or fraternal life, no freaking kids or marriage also.

I am amazed at how other people's opinions tend to bug you enough to comment about how amazed you are.

Agree. President of anything is a good thing. If you think this is taking Tubs time away from anything else, you're crazy.

That's all there is to it. If Tubby being the Aflac leader means UC has more W's than L's next to their name then I am all for it. I am not sure how it will impact the performance of our team on the field or long term recruiting/program development, but that is Bohn and TT's job to determine.
