Exclamation Early signing period for football ......
could be in place, as early as 2016 recruiting class.........

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recrui...e-football

like everything else, some will benefit from this more than others, SO, how big will this be for your school? our conference? G5 as a whole?

Absolutely benefits G5 as we can sign kids before they get "discovered" by P5 schools.

Definitely a big benefit for most of our classes. It's the guys that hold out for a big offer til the last minute that we have to worry about.

There's also going to be a lot of P5 coaches telling kids not to sign yet with that G5 because we MIGHT have a spot for you on normal signing day.

Overall I think this helps the G5. We have about 3-4 guys that would have signed early with us that could get poached late this year.

I do however think we'll see a lot more P5 offers extended in the early signing period so we may have to wait a little longer to get verbals on recruits than we do currently.

Im thinking of the importance of getting recruits on campus for visits during their Jr. year, and summer camps. Im not sure how well other schools are at recruiting a couple of year out. also, this may cut down the opportunity to get some visit scheduled late in the year for some of the diamonds in the ruff.

My question is how much more does this put on the coaching staff. These guys are already spread thin. Maybe this won't make much difference.

It will help G5 recruiting by getting the commitment before the big boys come in late. It will help the P5 by not letting the SEC schools steal each other's recruits in February as much.

I am in favor of an early singing period.

Particularly if it's some classic tunes like Hank Sr. or Marty Robbins.

It is good for the kids who have no doubt where they are going so they are not hounded as much. Good all around for schools like us so we do not waste time and energy on kids who we thought we might have a shot at.

Man, my memory is failing me... Kid signs a letter of intent in the early signing period.

What's to stop him from not showing up on campus and changing schools?

I know it wouldn't be done on the school side, but what about the student side?

I'd just hate to have a dozen kids sign in the early period, so they are guaranteed a scholarship, only to see half (or more) sign with P5's on the regular signing day.

Is this intent or actually signing? Would'nt the school have to grant a release if the kid officially signs?

RE: Early signing period for football ......
I don't think it will really help mid majors a whole lot. If a kid wants to play for a BCS team he's not going to commit until the very end of the cycle anyways. On the other hand if a kid signs with a BCS school and then gets hurt he's already locked in and the BCS school can't pull his offer. I'm sure it will protect a few kids but I think the true benefit is just going to be easier for coaches to lock in their guys and kids to get recruiters to stop harassing them. A good rule IMO.
