Archie Miller - Dayton
No, this is not about going after Archie Miller as the next HC.

This is an article about his team's preseason plans getting derailed and how he's overcome them - by coaching and not constantly preaching about his teams issues - instead of complaining to the media and the fans about inexperience or whatever, he just coaches. Dude lost his THREE biggest players - two that were supposed to START at C and PF - and just kept coaching. He has coached Dayton to a 13-2 record and they are 30th in KenPom.

Because Dayton now has only six scholarship players -- none taller than 6-6.

Honestly with that sort of success with a limited roster perhaps it SHOULD be a thread about going after him as the next HC if the position were to open up.

Got to keep a list, right?

RE: Archie Miller - Dayton
Quote:The interesting thing about how Miller is handling this is that he's refused to use it as an excuse. In fact, he's actually tried to turn everything into a positive even if that flies in the face of common sense. Miller, for example, doesn't talk about being shorthanded as much as he talks about benefitting from a short rotation that empowers players and let's them learn by playing through mistakes. And he doesn't talk about being small up front as much as he talks about how he now has more skill on the floor at all times.

"Everything is advantage-us," Miller said. "It's advantage-Dayton in a lot of ways."

Holy CRAP! I think I'm in love...

Yeah, it's a great read. And it is a case of 'feeding the positive dog' or whatever that meme is.

World kicks you in the teeth, kick the heck back. And just do the very best you can and keep fighting.

I doubt he believes having 6 scholly players is an actual positive, but if he can sell his players (brotherhood, playing time, growth!) then damn, that is awesome and worth reading by any coach who coaches from a point of positivity.

I dig it. Big time.

I get the down year when you lose 4 senior guards and return zero minutes at the one and two. It's not really the record that is the issue...

One coach preaches having more skill on the floor.

Another talks about outer space.

To each their own.

Out of all candidates being tossed around, he might actually be the most realistic. I'd take him in a heartbeat.
JP can stay and be recruiter...or videographer.

Or... Give Pastner time to fix current situation and if there is a vacancy in the future, keep Miller's name on the 'list'.

This is probably NTR, but I am leaving it here for now only b/c that pull quote is so damn good, everyone should see it. I'll move it soon, but I can't pull the trigger just yet. Love the pull quote too much 03-wink
