Also this year's Orange Bowl had a 5.0 rating, a down year for viewership. NIU/FSU was a 6.0, which was consistent with the '09/10,'10/11, and '12/13 OB's. Who wants to watch those lower level SEC and ACC teams?
It was on New Years Eve night. A bit of a different time slot than New Years Day.

Palmer and the former Georgia lb, can't think of his name, were up in arms about it. It was bad enough that I haven't watched a show including sports center since it happened. I am pretty sure we even had a thread on here about it. I using my phone or I would link to it.

Oh...those dicks? 03-lol

Did a search and don't see any threads on that specifically.

But I did find this which was written in March which was a pretty good article on NIU.

Big mistake.

Making a hell of a living as a "tool". Compared to Mark May Herbstreit looks like a expert!

It's not only about the score; how the game plays out to the eye ball test is just as important. Although OSU was obviously the better team in this game, I didn't come away thinking that Oregon wasn't the right opponent or couldn't "hang". They didn't play well and OSU played better (despite turnovers).

To the eyeball, NIU just couldn't "hang" with FSU in that game. I came away thinking that the score could've been a lot wider, but FSU (IMO) took their foot off the gas when the outcome was pretty much assured. Which was completely different from the GA-Hawaii game; GA obviously had a chip on their shoulder and pounded Hawaii the entire game.

NIU was within a TD going into the 4th quarter. And if it wasn't for a very debateable call on NIU's "fumble" FSU wouldn't have had a short field in the 4th quarter on one of their TD drives. And the point really is, when Oklahoma or Notre Dame loses by 4 TDs in a BCS game and are down by 17 going into halftime, people aren't saying they didn't belong and shouldn't be in any more BCS games.
Agree with all this^^^^^

Last night Oregon lost by 22pts so I'm guessing the sentiment today is that Oregon should definitely never be allowed to play in a big time bowl again. Am I right? And they lost to a B1G team, which as we well know, is the conference the MAC gets made fun of for loading up on easy OOC wins with. I'm so glad we have a committee that decides everything so we can stop them if they try to get in again by winning all of their scheduled games, people want to see the best teams play, not watch this kind of embarrassment. College football is saved!

Agree 100%.

Its this mentality that puts mediocre B10 teams in the pre-season top 25, while a hot NIU or BGSU sits on the outside with a "let them play their way in" attitude from voters. Sucks.
