Indoor Track & Field
Yeah, yeah, I know, not many people care but I figured I'd start a thread anyway.

Past weekend TXST had 20 top 3 finishes at the Arkansas Invitational @ UA.
Doesn't appear to have been a tough field

Arkansas Baptist
Arkansas
Missouri State
Tulsa

This weekend they head to Texas A&M Invitational. Tougher test.

Track and Field has been a big source of pride up here as well. Sharika Nelvis won National Championships at both the indoor and outdoor level last year.

TXST was down for a number of years until Coach Boone was hired. She's turned the program around.
Her first year we won 3/4 of the WAC T&F championships. Didn't do too badly last year, either. The SBC is (too me) a better caliber T&F conference so our finishes were respectable.

I love track and field, used to run the 400. Not sure I could run 10 these days.

Cajuns have been trying to rebuild the program the last 3-4 years and it's still a work in progress. We did have three firsts and some seconds at LSU last weekend but we're also adding some speed starting this semester with some former track/football guys from LSU starting.

Texas A&M Team Invitational.

TXST men placed 2nd behind A&M and the women placed 3rd behind Baylor and A&M. I'm impressed.

I think the Cajuns placed right behind the TXST men. We need to get the last of our sprinters participating to add to the points.

There were actually 2 different meets at A&M this past weekend. Friday was the Aggie 13 Team Invitational. You were in that one. We were in the Saturday A&M Team Invitational.

Kind of weird having 2 separate meets the same weekend.

RE: Indoor Track & Field
TXST has had 5 T&F athletes of the week, so far. Both men's and women's teams were just ranked 6th regionally.

"NEW ORLEANS – Texas State continues to stay ranked in the South Central Region as both teams are listed sixth according to U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The men stay at sixth while the women move up a spot from seventh last week.

The women's team had an impressive showing at the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational with both Talore Kelly and Marika Brown breaking school records. Kelly broke her own record in the weight throw with an improved distance of 19.26 meters (63-2.25) to stay in control at the top of the SBC while Brown put up a career indoor best, breaking the school's indoor record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.06 for first in the SBC.

A number of the women's runners turned in career marks to keep Texas State at the top of the conference. On the men's side, the Bobcats finished second at the meet, beating teams such as Clemson, Baylor, UTEP, Rice, Houston, TCU and Sun Belt Conference competition UT Arlington.

In fact, the men's sixth-ranked regional ranking puts the Bobcats in front of Baylor (seventh) and TCU (eighth). Texas State is also ranked ahead of SBC foes Arkansas State (ninth) and UT Arlington (15th). The women are ranked in front of Arkansas State, SMU, Lamar, Rice, Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Houston and North Texas."

Regional Rankings Pdf

I am stoked for the championship meet in 12 days.

Little bit of a controversy after prelim heat 1 of the men's DMR. TXST involved. Sound is not clear enough to figure out the issue.

RE: Indoor Track & Field
As it's not my job to post about anyone else's school I can't comment on mother possible NCAA qualifiers. Our gal (Allie Saunders) that won the Triple Jump (and long jump) had a school record TJ and ranked her 10th Nationally. She possibly will represent TXST at the NCAA Indoor T&F Championships in June.

3 TXST athletes are now waiting to see if they make the NCAA cut.
Others:
Darian Brown - throws
Aaron George - throws, 400 m
