TXST has had 5 T&F athletes of the week, so far. Both men's and women's teams were just ranked 6th regionally.
"NEW ORLEANS – Texas State continues to stay ranked in the South Central Region as both teams are listed sixth according to U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The men stay at sixth while the women move up a spot from seventh last week.
The women's team had an impressive showing at the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational with both Talore Kelly and Marika Brown breaking school records. Kelly broke her own record in the weight throw with an improved distance of 19.26 meters (63-2.25) to stay in control at the top of the SBC while Brown put up a career indoor best, breaking the school's indoor record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.06 for first in the SBC.
A number of the women's runners turned in career marks to keep Texas State at the top of the conference. On the men's side, the Bobcats finished second at the meet, beating teams such as Clemson, Baylor, UTEP, Rice, Houston, TCU and Sun Belt Conference competition UT Arlington.
In fact, the men's sixth-ranked regional ranking puts the Bobcats in front of Baylor (seventh) and TCU (eighth). Texas State is also ranked ahead of SBC foes Arkansas State (ninth) and UT Arlington (15th). The women are ranked in front of Arkansas State, SMU, Lamar, Rice, Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Houston and North Texas."
