Big 12 Expansion
If and when the Big 12 expands, Bowlsby acknowledges that they would target schools to the east which eliminates BYU and Boise from the discussion. The top candidate on most everyone's list is Cincinnati which would help West virginia out. But who would the second target be? Central Florida, Memphis, East Carolina or Connecticut?

RE: Big 12 Expansion
My vote goes for Connecticut due to there pedigree in basketball and $71 million dollar budget.

In fact I would recommend UConn and Memphis as the #11 and #12 school with UConn added to help WVU and Memphis because of he Liberty Bowl.

UC is solid, don't get me wrong but Memphis and UConn have more potential.

Isn't this like the 154th thread about Big 12 Expansion?

RE: Big 12 Expansion
I don't understand why ECU would be an a serious B12 expansion list.

If the B12 felt compelled to pick a school in the Southeast, USF/UCF would be way more valuable from a market/academic perspective.

Memphis and Cincy

The only realistic picks that bridge the gap to WVU

RE: Big 12 Expansion
If the original premise is that Cincy is a lock for #11, then #12 chances I would rank in this order

1. Memphis
+ builds bridge to Cincy and WV.
+Good at basketball
+ adds a new market in Tenn and south
+ Big financial backer in FedEx
+ already existing big FB stadium
- traditionally bad at football and low FB attendance although had a good year in 2014
- will always be below Volunteers, Titans, Grizzlies in fan support, but have potential to be #2 school in state in fan support.
- low academic rating compared to other B12 schools

2. BYU football only
+ strong FB history, 60k attendance, national following,
- cultural issues, no play on Sunday, tv rights issues

3. UCF
+ strong market and recruiting area
+ big university with huge number of alumni
+ big stadium, 40k+ attendance
- not geographically close to any B12 schools.
- ar best 3rd in fan support behind Gators and FSU.

4. USF
same reasons as UCF, just UCF is more trendy pick right now.

5,6. Colorado State, New Mexico
Share a border with B12 schools.

7,8 Tulane, Rice
Private schools in the neighborhood with strong academics

9, 10. Houston, UTSA
Schools that would be good candidates except the B12 already has 4 schools in Texas

11, 12, Boise St, Uconn,
Geographic outliers that would be strong candidates if they were closer

13, 14, 15, 16, NIU, Mizzou St, La Tech, NDSU
Schools that make geographic sense but not ready for P5 football

17, 18 19 SDSU, Hawaii, ECU
Geographic outliers that would be considered if closer

There are no teams the Big 12 could add that would make them stronger on the field or more valuable to the media. In fact, any expansion would make them weaker both financially and competitively. Apparently, though, there are a lot of people who want them to expand anyway.

Amen. Just another thread started to stir up old hatreds and ad nauseum arguments over which school is most deserving. blah blah blah.

Oh, and the Big12 is not expanding anytime soon. If they go multiple seasons with their teams being left out because of the lack of a CCG, then maybe. The Big12's opinion is they like their current payout and they don't want to bring in another G5 program to improve their situation. It's their conference whether we like it or not.

The Big 12 is not expanding.

So... Irrelevant question is... Irrelevant.

(But I notice that you didn't put that option out there...)

Time will tell..but they will expand or implode. As a whole...they will continue to lose ground to the SEC, B1G, PAC 12 and ACC. ACC knew what they had to do and acted accordingly. They are vulnerable.

No question about that. Memphis and Cincinnati also add valuable TV markets, new recruiting territories, up-and-coming football programs, healthy athletic budgets and a built-in rivalry with each other.

I don't think the Big XII can pass up BYU and still come out with more money per team a year. The 'looking east' comments are just posturing to put pressure on BYU to make more concessions.

I voted Memphis but I don't think the Big 12 will expand.

RE: Big 12 Expansion
The Possibility of an Implosion if Texas and Oklahoma were to leave others behind, might make the others think twice about not covering the bases by adding 2 more schools thus making it harder to dissolve the Big 12. I go with the Most logical available East of Mississippi River schools Memphis and Cincinnati. Both are Easily accessible from any current Big 12 schools by Fans and Teams. Both are Entertainment Hotel and Restaurant friendly environments for fans making the Trip. Both Would see Huge spikes in Fan Support with the Big 12 P5 addition.
