This might be the last winnable game on our men's basketball schedule...Well...maybe USA.

After everyone has played 4-5 games here is how Warren Nolan predicts the final SB standings at this point:

Georgia St. 16-4
Ga. Southern 15-5
ULM 15-5
Louisiana 14-6
Texas St. 13-7
Texas-Arlington 12-8
App. St. 6-14
Ark. St. 5-15
UALR 5-15
Troy 4-16
South Alabama 4-16

This illustrates, perfectly, how RPI in basketball is useless until the end of the season.

I agree. This year pretty much every SB game either team can win. I don't believe there is a dominant team in the league.

Bobcats should bounce back from their loss to ULM to down the Jags.

I really like playing the 20 conference games as it provides 10 quality home games this year. Here at Ga. Southern I would so much rather play everyone at home than schedule more non D1 schools.

I know a team that likely can't win any game...

I agree! I would much rather get a chance to see the confernece teams at least once at home as well.

Yeah. From a quick eyeball test I'd say UL is the better team, but our guys have a ton of potential. We just cant seem to put together a complete game which I think we'll need to beat UL even at home.

Hope you can manage more than 875 fans in attendance for the Cajuns.

lol.

I'm hoping that with one of the best starts we have had in years, and for this game being for possibly first place, that there is some hype being built up for this game. Haven't been to a GS basketball game in Statesboro for a few years, but when that place is packed out it loud and a great atmosphere. Hopefully the students come out in full force.

3 of our home games were over the holiday break, 2 more were vs. tomato cans, the students are back now and this is a big conference game, I definitely see us hitting 1500 Thursday. Could be quite a bit more if the athletic department really pushes the hype around campus.

The students should be back, and that will help.

It should also help that this is probably the best team we've had in Hanner since an Elite 8 Davidson team seven years ago.

I think we will definitely get over 1500--- I am saying 2300.

Any yes we have not drawn well for basketball at Ga. Southern but we have generally been pretty bad. When the product gets better and it seems to be doing that you will see our attendance go up.

Also playing non D1 teams does not help and we seem hell-bent on playing 3 every year. No one really wants to go see those games when the opponent is so bad and we win by 40 plus points.

I think the game between the Cajuns and GA Southern is a pickem right now. GS has been playing very well, and having a team with a great player can make everyone around him better. You can look at what Payton did for the Cajuns last year as an example although Shawn Long was also in the mix. I think we're a much more diverse team this year, but I've seen games where one player can get hot and just pick everyone else up.

With all that being said, it should be a great game.

So far this has been a pleasant surprise season for Ga. Southern. I think we were picked to finish something like 7th or so. I think Thursday will be a real test to see if the Eagles are indeed capable of competiing for the top 2-3 spots in the league. I am hoping the Ga. Southern fanbase will turn out. Our arena if you want to call it that only seats about 4800 or so, so if we can get 3000 plus in there it can be a big homecourt advantage. It remains to be seen how many will come. Basketball has not been a highly supported sport here for a good while.

Georgia Southern can hang with ULL if they can shoot well from three.

It seems there is some hype on campus (if online reports are accurate) and it looks like a lot of people are making an effort to bring friends to the game. I won't be able to make it, but will try to watch the game online. I'm hoping for a big crowd (3k+) and a GS win, but I have a feeling we may have the crowd but then come out flat and not be able recover. It just seems whenever GS has a good thing going (at least in non-football sports) they crap the bed and fall back a couple steps.
