Pearl can flat out coach, no one can argue that fact. But Pearl + Memphis + NCAA = death penalty. They will be watching our every move with a magnifying glass and nail Memphis & Pearl to the wall the first chance they get.

Totally understand why you feel that way.

Might be worth the risk

So pearl would risk the rest of his career and getting us the death penalty? Gotcha

Why would pearl leave auburn. I haven't heard not one single reason to make the assumption he would leave

That's the only thing they can come up with at this time. The "he's our coach K" has apparently run its course.

It's a dead end job. Maybe the worst in the SEC along with South Carolina

Because Memphis is a better job, much better recruiting and a commitment to basketball.

Auburn is a football school. Always will be

It's the same reason why Marshall turned down NC State. You don't want to be in a middle of the road team in a conference.

"They" don't have to come up with anything. I have already admitted several times that I think I was wrong and that I no longer think Josh can make it here. The way I feel about Pearl has absolutely nothing to do with Josh. Pearl is dirty and NCAA just loves Memphis. Im my opinion they'll pounce on every little thing until something sticks. But again, that is my opinion...

No, just a realist. If Josh gets canned for Pearl, the climb back to respectability is only going to be that much steeper.

We should not let a little thing like an infraction resulting on a show cause get in the way of hiring wonderful guy like Pearl.

Just get the NCAA to give us a fancy, shiny "He's Okey Dokey" letter and seal of approval like they did for Cal for UK. We're good to go.

He wouldn't. He has infused life back into that program. I'm sure the expectations there are't much. If he makes it to the tournament in the next couple of years he will be a hero there. I think he will be at Auburn for awhile.

RE: Bruce Pearl Wiki
auburn may be a decent job but auburn is never going to be a basketball powerhouse and he will always be second fiddle to calipari in the sec which I'm sure doesn't sit well with pearl. On the flip side he can come to memphis where his coaching reputation is stellar and he already has recruiting ins here and he could strive to do what calipari couldn't here which is to win it all. My guess is if he's hired as our new coach, season tickets would sell out quickly and we'll see a packed forum again. Heck, with a rejuvenated austin, nick, and Shaq and the Lawsons he could probably take us on a deep run in the big dance the first year. Meanwhile, Pastner will be a video coordinator somewhere next year.

Think about it, 10,000 season tickets at around $500 each (if you average out terrace and club/lower bowl donations) is $5 million. That's the difference between pearl and pastner in 2015-2016, so the buy out pays for itself.

We can assign an 'in-program' compliance officer to follow him around 7x24; we need to make this happen.

Maybe he's turned over a new leaf? Also, he might not really need to push the envelope here at Memphis. Memphis would be, by far, the best job he's ever had.

Maybe he has, who knows. I can't stand the guy, but he is one hell of a coach.
