Other than the lie to the NCAA about having a recruit at his house what other NCAA violations has he been slapped with.

He was a whistle blower in 1988-89.....

The man has paid his dues and worked his way up the coaching food chain.

He's won big everywhere he's been and none of the places he's been are as good as Memphis for basketball.

He's 470-150 W-L all time..... .758 winning percentage.

So what if he wiretapped a conversation and made leading comments to a recruit in an attempt to discredit another coach. Ethics mean nothing. You kind of left out the part where he told others to lie to the NCAA. As they said in Watergate it wasn't the crime it was the cover up.

recruiting? ethics? 03-lmfao

If those kinds of things insult your sensitivities then you need to stay far, far, away from major college sports and hell, big time high school sports as well.

Don't kid yourself into thinking Pearl is any worse than most everyone else. He ain't no choirboy but neither is ANY other successful coach.

Yea right every coach out there commits felonies in order to get recruits.

What was the felony? It is legal to record any phone conversation of which you are a part. I thought that's what he did in 1988-89......

Was there something else?

Racecar guy tends toward the dramatic. Pearl was absolutely, ridiculously stupid for how he handled the Aaron Craft BBQ thing. That got him a 3 year show cause, and he's served his time. The folks that want to hold the Illinois-Iowa stuff against him conveniently ignore that he was basically uncovering a cheating scandal. Villifying a whistleblower is easy to do when it fits your company line.

What a joke. He would be a batter fouling a ball off of his foot, in terms of public perception of the school.

According to the other coach that sweat hog snitched on there's more to come if he ever opens his mouth about him again. Believe me, I keep them in a vault," Collins said. "I'll never let them burn up. If a fire comes up into my house, they are in a burn-proof vault. And I tell [Pearl]: Every time you want to toss mud, we'll toss. Otherwise, you keep my name out of your mouth and I'll keep your name out of mine." . I seriously doubt the slime ball pearl would be stupid enough to do this but you never know about the other coach . He obviously has skeletons in his closet too that would kill boths careers . Yeah hire him just what the university needs .

RE: Bruce Pearl Wiki
There is a guy in our area who played for Pearl at USI in Evansville. The guy liked Pearl but from what I gather, Pearl is as dirty as they come. When he was hired at Tennessee, there were jokes about how UT must have given him a blank rule book. No thanks. IF Pastner is let go, surely we could find someone better than Pearlvert.

I'm pretty sure Pearl has been quoted as saying he wanted to be in the SEC again. Otherwise, why take the Auburn job when he could have waited for better program? Granted, Auburn is playing in new arena and I am sure the challange of building Auburn into a winner intrigued him.

Pearle was in Iowa a single consent state, the call was to Illinois a dual consent state, when that is done ALL parties must give consent.

So you are saying that without question he committed a felony. Was he charged with a felony? The situation was so public I can't imagine it being lost in the shuffle.

I can't find anything specific on this one way or the other but 1988-89 was a long time ago so it may not be readily available.

To be clear: you are saying that Pearl has a felony on his record?

Yeah. I don't know why they are so insistent that we're basically just an 'above average' program and should not expect any better than that.

They beat that drum to the point that they can't back off the position. There are two or three of them that are not actively rooting AGAINST us making a great coaching hire to replace JP.

It is really sad to see the lengths that some folks will go to in order to 'be right' on a message board discussion......

You mean kind of like how UK's public perception has suffered so much from Calipari's slimy reputation?

Do you honestly think Memphis would get a pass from the media like Kentucky? Keep dreaming.

It is a moot point. Pearl nor any other home run hire is coming to
Memphis. Now there are discussions with Barbee according to a trustworthy poster. He might take the job if we offer a very large salary.

Ole Donnie is a real charming second choice, ain't he.

Donnie has almost half as many top 25 wins in his career at UT as Josh has here with 9 new players rebuilding from a sweet 16 year. And no one could argue that they have anywhere near the talent level that we have here.
