Time to deemphasize basketball
basketball does nothing but tarnish the image of the university

basketball doesnt even matter in the grand scheme of big time athletics

its just a filler sport in the football offseason

pay the next basketball coach no more than one third of the football coach and redirect all but subsistence basketball spending towards the sport that counts-- football

the time has come.

RE: Time to deemphasize basketball
I actually agree with this statement. If we want what is best for the University then we prioritize football. I sense Bowen knows this as well.

RE: Time to deemphasize basketball
if we deemphasize basketball even more we will lose to ECU, UCF, USF, or another directional school.

The HORROR of it all……..

Both being good is a plus. Louisville wasn't exactly world beaters in football before they got in. They were losing to teams like Florida International a few years ago.

The bolded part I agree with but the rest I can't agree with. Basketball has carried this program forever. Keeping it at the level it's been at and in addition getting football to where it's profitable is a win-win. It would be foolish to allow basketball to fall farther and actually BTiger is partially correct in that some of our biggest boosters prefer basketball. They pay the bills and will not let it drop to that level of pay. They also see the benefits for the entire athletic department to build football up, finally.

So why are the "basketball folks" investing in our football program?

RE: Time to deemphasize basketball
tell that to the crazed bb fans. tell keith lee, penny, and all the fans that supported them, etc that's what we need to do.

"this year" doesn't matter in the grand scheme of all the great history the bb team has had. I gotta give it that but I believe we should maintain our emphasis and just stow the maniacal a smidgen. it just ain't time to retreat; especially now.

all things fair and equal Memphis athletics, a lot more emphasis on fb is the operative, imo. not instead of but in addition to.

Deja vu from a few years ago although we were saying this about football

You guys are absolutely INSANE

I'll go on...did we deemphasize hoops when we sucked those years with Tic Price? How about when Johnny Jones went 16-15 in his one year here? or when Cal had average records in his first 5 years?

You folks need to GET A GRIP and or a life.
