RE: ODU Basketball- Advanced Stats:
Excellent post ODU BBALL. Feel the same way. The one game he actually got some PT, he took the ball right to the rim, moved well, passed well and just looked like a very good basketball player. I wish we could see more of him but we ARE 15 & 2 so whatever we are doing is sure working.

Great Post.
I played ball, many of you played ball and know how it is when you are joining an established team.
There is a desire not to screw things up and when you are in it is best to simplify things and identify the one thing that you can do that brings the most value to the team. With Javonte it is rebounding, he's going 100 percent for every rebound.
No, he's not going to be the next Paul Millsap, as his role expands he will be less likely to be just a rebounder, especially on offense.
There is also scouting involved. Other CUSA coaches will make it a point to keep him off of the boards, at least at a lesser rate.
Great rebounder but like we speculated, that percentage has to drop some going forward.

It's all luck. So is our scoring defense, 3pt defense, W/L record, and basically all other statistics.

While I agree that his numbers are likely to come crashing down, it's not the offensive boards that are shooting his numbers up. It's that he's rebounding 29% of shots on the defensive end. That would be close to the best in the nation if he qualified.
I really enjoy his all around game though he's shooting is a question mark at this point (bc we haven't seen it). But, hes long, plays defense, is a great rebounding SF, good passer, etc.

Id be interested to know who he plays with most in his rotations. For example, Arledge is the best defensive rebounding big. Is Douglas getting most of his rebounds with Arledge on the bench?
Great rebounder, can't wait until the rest of the game begins to show.

RE: ODU Basketball- Advanced Stats:
My uneducated guess would be that he plays a lot with Ross and/or Taylor bc there def% are down and I don't see how Arledge/Douglas would be on the court both at the same time, bc they would literally have gotten every rebound. (ok, not literally)

I'm thinking the same thing. Ten people are fighting for these rebounds. Difficult to imagine two players are absorbing over half of them.

I just saw some highlighted stats on ODUSports that has Ross, Arledge, and Taylor all at about 7 rebounds/game. None were ranked higher than 14th in conf. It gets spread around.

That doesn't account for minutes played or rebound opportunities though. For example on the minutes played:
Per 40 mins:
Ross-9.1 rebounds
Douglas 14.3 rebounds
Arledge- 11.9 rebounds
Taylor- 10.7 rebounds

Per forty minutes played stats are stupid if the player doesn't play significant minutes. Its a lot easier to go out and bust your ass for 6 minutes than to sustain it for 30 minutes.
