If Wofford's bush league TV feed didn't give out maybe we would!

Can't blame Bartow on this one. It was a heat of the moment reaction, reacting to a punk move by a kid on a team that's good now, but will be back in the 300 RPI ratings sooner than later.

Kind of like how they kept saying what a good coach Wofford has, 200 wins closing in on top spot etc, then they showed his record, I think he is 204 or something and 190, so that means up until last year he was probably a sub 500 coach.

Three NCAA Tournament appearances in last five years. Been very good teams all three of those years. Until the last five years, I had some real questions about how good of a coach Mike Young was. He has proven himself in the last five years. He's a good coach.

I have seen the same thing before -- it's an old high school trick; you really don't see it done much in college because it's understood it's considered "bush league" by college coaches. You see it probably once a year if you go to a lot high school games, but it's been 10 years or so since I've seen it in a college game. Be certain, however, that the Wofford bench or probably their head coach put the kid up to do it. It's done more for the distraction effect, or to get the home fans active. Psychological warfare. I heard Bob Hoffman has done it, but I can't remember ever seeing him use it against us.

The descriptions of what happened pretty much matches what I saw. However, Coach B never left the coaching box, so he wasn't on the "floor." Their player was inside the coaching box, and stuck his head to within inches of both Rembert and Coach B. Coach B's push probably wouldn't have been called a foul if one of their players had done it to one of ours; the push-off of our guy on the home run pass at the end of the first half was far worse.

I'd be shocked if there was even a warning issued by the league for something in the gamesmanship category. If it were to escalate into something more, yes. But this was a sorry attempt by Wofford at gamesmanship. And it had to be sanctioned by their coach.

Question: Did the incident occur during a called time out?

Wofford was preparing to shoot a free throw at the other end of the court. The officials were all watching that, never saw what went on with Rembert, Coach B, and the Wofford player in our bench area. They did hear and see the two coaches up jawing at each other afterwards and came running. That's when the technicals were called.

I've never seen Bartow have emotions, so I see this as good news if the man has a pulse or a feeling other than sulking and jerking a kid like Rembert out of the game for missing a single shot.

SoCon commish Iamarino saw video of ETSU coach Bartow's confrontation with Wofford player, talked to both coaches and that's the end of it.

I will just say that I am glad this incident is over. Just so you know, Mike Young told me that he didn't instruct Spencer Collins to listen to Bartow's conversation, for me not to believe that bull$hit. And since I once had Coach Young as a PE teacher and have developed a bond with him, I can tell you he has been nothing but nice to me and I just can't fathom him ever doing what basically amounts to asking one of his players to cheat. And I also totally disagree that we will be back below 300 RPI "sooner rather than later", as some jacka$$ here quipped. But I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, as asinine as it might be. But since I know something about the recruits and transfers we're getting and none of you know jack $hit about our program, my opinion is definitely a little more informed and valid than someone who is basically just guessing based on our limited success in the past. Just remember, there was a time when Duke was a piece of $hit basketball progrm. I'm sure that in the 1980s when they first rose to prominence, people at places like UNC and NC State generated a lot of uninformed drivel about them not being able to sustain success. And also remember we weren't D-1 until the late 1990s. It takes some motherf***ing time to build a program at this level. But you and the rest of this conference are going to be finding out we have finally done just that at Wofford- MARK MY WORDS! We are breaking ground for a brand new basketball arena this fall (the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium) because we know we have finally taken that all-important step to yearly contention for league titles. I guess I should give you guys some slack since you've been in the A-Sun and haven't really paid attention to what has gone on in the SoCon recently. But like JohnMoc and a lot of other opposing fans who actually have some SoCon basketball knowledge will attest to, Mike Young is for real. If he wasn't, schools wouldn't be trying to hire him away from us every offseason. So I will close by saying that if you believe me then good for you- you are a very smart person. But if you still don't choose to believe me, then you can just suck my [edited].

God, it's great to be back in a league with fans that care. Even fans as delusional as this one ^.

This guy kicks you in the balls, but then politely shakes your hand and compliments your attire. I don't know what to think.

Belmont was in the NCAA's in five years after transitioning from NAIA D-2 to NCAA Division I. They're fans are obnoxious as hell but they're too busy eating pancakes and listening to bro country.
Florida Gulf Coast did it in five as well and made a run. It can be done. You must be a young un, ask Winthrop what happens when a successful coach bolts for a bigger and better job. Hell, ask ETSU what happened four years after Les Robinson left. Shoot Chattanooga may never be the same after Shulman was there.
History has a funny way of repeating itself in this league, Chattanooga and ETSU have historically been at the top in basketball.
We'll be a much better program when someone finally grows a pair and gives Murry his gold watch and walking papers.

What we do know about the SoCon is that when we left it was a much better conference then the ASun, while we were gone the ASun passed it in RPI. As for Young being the real deal, I think this is 13th year at Wofford, before last year started he was 2 games under 500, not sure how a coach could keep his job in most places for 11 years with that record. Hell I don't even think our last AD who had IQ of a coal bucket would have put up with that.

All I can say then is that you haven't been paying attention. I seriously thought he was going to stroke out during the Chattanooga game. And what about his whining about the fans leaving early a few years ago? He's got a temper, let me assure you; and it's often on display. "Petulant" and "childish" fit him well when things don't go his way.

Bartow is always ranting and raving on the sidelines screaming at someone. He shows all kinds of emotion and as doctor said most of them not flattering.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ Wofford (L 64-72)
I feel compelled to come back and apologize for being such a jerk and using the language I used here earlier and for flying off the handle for opinions that you guys have every right to have. I just have to accept the fact that everyone doesn't love Wofford like I do and that maybe Wofford isn't really as good a school as I have them in my mind to be. When I got accepted into Wofford, I felt proud because I thought of it as a very good academic school. Maybe I overrated it. It certainly isn't Harvard. But a few of my friends didn't get into Wofford with me and instead went across town to USCS. I kind of go indefensibly bat crazy when people talk bad of my school because Wofford is very special to me. I loved it because it is a small school and the students and alumni, being small in number, are like a tight knit community. And I got lots of one on one attention from great professors and my degree helped me eventually become the nuclear power plant RP technician I am now. I'm sure ETSU is as special to some of you guys as Wofford is to me. Anyway, I've been sick with the flu and allergies lately and me and the wife have been having some problems so I am not myself anyway. I'm actually shocked you didn't ban me from here. If someone said what I did on the Wofford board, they'd be history right away. Thanks, I guess. But again, I just wanted to kind of apologize and explain myself. I am going to now go back to the Wofford board where I belong and stay there.

Honestly, if he wants to talk a little smack and all, I say let him. Good rivalries make for good games. If we can have the level of rivalry with Wofford and Mercer like we've had historically with Chattanooga, then cool by me.

If we can get both the players and the fans riled up for games against more than just one or two teams, that's always a good thing. Maybe getting beat by those rivals a few too many times will lead to some of the changes everyone seems to want in the program as well. Just my 2 cents there.
