I remember in The Palace a few years ago in their NCAA games against St Mary's and Michigan State, watching him place 10-15 numbered, laminated pieces of computer paper on the scorers table before the game...I somehow immediately knew he was an awful coach.

My brother and I were laughing our asses off about it both of those games. There are 8th grade girl's coaches who could do that...

Memphis fans have very high (insanely high?) expectations, so the lack of Final Fours (or even Sweet Sixteens) after 5 years means that there's heat on the coach. Bottom line, he's not John Calipari and he's not delivering Calipari-level recruits or Calipari-level results.

Knowing Memphis fans, they probably think they can pull a big, established P5 coach out...that won't happen. They'll be getting an up-and-comer and none of them want that again after this

Plus picking an "established P5 coach" means there's two BIG contracts to buy out. I wonder if Memphis even has the 'willing money' to buy out Pastner's. But you're right --- there are morons on the Memphis Board who have lusted for Bruce Pearl now for years.

He means that a job where 4 straight trips to the NCAAs means that you're a bum who needs to be run out of town is one you think long and hard before taking.

So if you can get the same kind of money for, say, the Arkansas or Ole Miss or Georgia Tech or Illinois job, and know that if you make the tournament 2 years out of 4 you get a contract extension, Memphis is a less attractive prospect.
