Broadband Reclassification Likely
FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has hinted that he will support reclassifying broadband as a common utility.

Google, Netflix, Facebook, and other online service providers rejoice. Telecom companies, not so much.

Also looks likely that they're not going to allow anything below 25mbps download and 1mbps upload to be classified as broadband. This is because broadband is not being made widely available to Americans in a timely fashion despite telecom companies receiving over $200 billion of public money to build out their networks, then simply not doing it. Criminal.

I read an interesting story that the Cable and Broadband lobbyists managed to paint themselves into a corner. Good guys win this one.

This should also make it easier for Google to build out their fiber network, increasing competition. Telecoms won't be able to throttle speeds in any market where Google Fiber exists because they'll lose all their customers (and will probably lose a lot anyway). Huge win for Google in particular.

Now if the FCC and FTC would bother to actually do their jobs instead of perpetuating micro-monopolies and killing competition the average consumer might eventually get good service at a fair price.

I'm not holding my breath on that one though.
